It appears that all was not well in the Chelsea camp prior to their defeat in the Carling Cup Final on Sunday.

By all accounts, a training-ground melee may have led to the downfall of Avram Grant’s side. Apparently John Terry and assistant manager Henk ten Cate had a bust-up less than 24 hours before the Wembley final.

The Sun claims the Dutchman went face to face with the Chelsea FC skipper before a heated incident ensued. The newspaper quotes a witness as saying: "The session was supposed to put the finishing touches to the final plans for Wembley - but it just descended into a massive row. All the players have become exasperated by the shambolic nature of some of the recent training sessions.

"And there was a lot of unrest among the squad because no one knew what the team was going to be for Wembley. Everyone was trying to guess what was going on and in the end the frustration became too much.

"But the intensity of the row took everyone by surprise. John and Ten Cate were right in each other's faces and when it became clear that neither was going to back down, other players jumped between them to pull them apart.

"To make matters worse, Roman Abramovich was visiting the training ground and saw the whole thing."

Chelsea fans must be concerned about this fracas, which might spell the beginning of dressing-room unrest. The west London side are already ridden with speculation that a number of star players may be on their way out.

Could this prove to be the beginning of the end of Grant's reign? Is he really just keeping the seat warm for Frank Rijkaard?

Spurs could have won the final by a far more convincing margin but this bad news from the training ground is the last thing Chelsea needed.
