Scotland's shame: Fans allowed to sully the name of Celtic legend Jock Stein.

You Gerald Mclaughlin seem very passionate about this subject and quite rightly so, the problem I have with articles like this is that once again no one seems to have the b***s to name the culprits so many viewers of this article may think thats Scotlands shame as you call it is more widespread than in real life, lets name and shame these idiots and there clubs.

I wasn,t sure whether or not i would be taken to pieces for it.But hey,bugger it.Rangers,Hearts,Kilmarnock are all guilty but no more so than those idiots at the SFA and their funny handshakes with the Scottish media.Damn,i wish i had put that in now!!!

The culprits carrying these banners have to be challenged by the media,tracked down and interviewed on film.If this happened they would 1. Not be able to articulate themselves 2. Be very very embarrased 3. Be rangers supporters,and I say that as one. The men involved in this...sorry numpties involved should really just be ignored,remember the orangemen of the past were morally bankrupt by todays standards and many of them did disgusting things to human beings.

Rangers fans are the source of the BJK chant and if you tune in to their games on tv you'll hear thousands of them singing it. What you won't hear is anything from the Scottish media or the SFA about this chanting, even though it is publicly smearing Scotland's greatest ever footballing figure. The reason is that Rangers have both the Scottish media and the SFA in their back pocket and they will not dare to say a word.

People with hate in their hearts, thats what they are.

Personally, I feel no need to sully the name of a Scottish Footballing Great, and do not participate in chanting of this sort. But, I think you will find it will be difficult to get chant of this nature stopped, as it's what the chant is perceived to refer too that may be deemed discriminative, rather than the words within the chants . If I was a celtic fan, i'd stop posting things like this, and letting the Rangers fans know than it annoys so much. If you don't bite every time some one throws bait, then they'll stop fishing.

If you check out this month's When Saturday Comes - and I bet you have! - I think you'll find there is an entire page given over to the subject, written by a Rangers fan too. In it he mentions the fact that the head of the SFA (the body you libelously claim to be doing nothing about this sick phenomenon) personally intervened to remove a BJK banner from the crowd attending the Newton Stewart v Linlithgow Rose Scottish Cup match on 30th September 2007. Hear that, gerald? He PERSONALLY walked over to the morons with the flag, did ex-Rangers player Gordon Smith, and he took it off them. Also I see you manage to mention the fact Rangers fans, as detailed in the above-mentioned WSC piece, have completely halted their sectarian chanting of the past. Yet you conveniently manage to re-package this huge advance as an insult. This is the source of the PROBLEM between The Celtic and the Rangers fans they are always trying to be superior than each other.This is based deep in the collective egos of both tribes and its source is deep insecurity in individualism.The inability to evolve into the responsible adult world with a free independant expressive mind will keep yous locked in perpetual tribalism....ha in the 21st centuary too! Too many of us Celtic fans are in denial about this whole shameful episode. The club should accept we covered up the abuse of children and apologise. We also fail to acknowledge that Stein did indeed knew about Torbett and failed to report this to the police. To fellow Celtic fans accept this happened and move forward.

Whilst personally I don't sing these songs (I believe that they are insensitive to the families of the real victims), I see Celtic fans operating their usual high standard of revisionism in relation to this issue. Celtic fans - by denying that Jock Stein was aware and did not inform the police - are accusing many people of perjury, including their former captain and manager Bill McNeill. McNeill clearly stated in court that Stein was aware, had removed Torbett from the club but refused to contact the police as "the good name [sic] of Celtic must be upheld". Are Celtic fans directing their ire at McNeill for "lying"? There you go folks. The real scandal isn't the signing of songs, it's protecting a club versus the protection of victims of child abuse.

The biggest crime of all was that NO ONE WENT TO THE POLICE ABOUT THIS AT THE TIME....Can't Celtic fans face the truth your club covered UP A SCANDLE INVOLING YOUNG BOYS a very shameful episode indeed

maybe if people like you started admiting the truth then this chant would stop. fact is people abused by torbet have said jock knew about the abuse, the celtic legend billy mcneil admited jock knew about the abuse, another celtic legend tommy burns has also admited jock knew about the abuse. statements were read in court and are in the courts records that jock knew about the abuse AND that it was covered up. instead of dealing with the FACTS as usual people like you try the old celtic way of dealing with things you dont like. deny deflect then review the truth to what you want to hear. if big jock means so much to you, maybe you should look into big jock not being allowed a seat on the board at celtic because he was a protestant. this is usual tripe dribbled out from the celtic minded these days. much like the sectarian chants they so hate to be sung at them, they try to get songs they dont like banned then sit at celtic park and induldge themselves in their own brand of bigotry, which is ok because it does not offend them.

I cannot believe that Celtic fans have managed yet again to turn the focus from the actual issue and make it about Those Big Bad Rangers Fans. You tell stories to your kids about Rangers fans like, If you're bad those bad Gers fans will get you. Well why not be honest and say, If you're bad then Uncle Jimmy'll get ya. Big Jock Did Know and so do we, we will not hide the fact and believe that the families of the victims deserve for Celtic to admit to what happened and show some support to the families, rather than sweep sweep sweep.
