Arsenal finished the season 15 points better off than they did last time around - an excellent improvement. But a disastrous run of form at a critical time of the season ultimately cost them the title.
Undefeated for the opening 15 games, the Gunners lost their unbeaten tag at the Riverside Stadium on December 9, surprisingly going down 2-1 to a struggling Middlesbrough side.
They bounced back well, however, going on to win eight and draw two of the next 10 games - but the wheels then came off in dramatic fashion away at Birmingham City on February 23.
Despite losing Croatian striker Eduardo early in the game with a horrific broken leg, and then going behind to a James McFadden goal, Arsenal showed great character to come back in the second half with two goals from Theo Walcott.

Essexian76 (13/05/2008 00:24) Comment Quote Report abuse Well Done Syd The most sebauched team of lying cheating criminals ever to use Sport for their own end, morals and honesty when it comes to Arsenal are about as likely as Wenger going to Specsavers for an eye test. Never since their arrival in North London by very dubious means have they even tried to do things with honesty and integrety. Players jailed for drink related crimes or hit and run, crying over thier gambling or drug problem or openly boasting about thier drinking culturem, yeah mate real icons, unforunately there is no karma, as despite cheating thier way to the top they've never suffered the fate of honest clubs, have they

Did you even read the article or do you just add this comment to any Arsenal related piece?
Just noticed it was written before my article was even published!
Nice to see the Knives Are out early this year, yes it's been a strange season, and we've under performed, but still we won something, thrashed our neighbours (BOTH OF THEM...AND HOW), and beat a good if poorly managed side in the final, still get great support (sold out time and time again) not bad for a side in the bottom half of the table, and spend out (before the season's ended) on a potential star...yes I can see why others the hate us, we're crap, but still end up grabbing the headlines, sticking two fingers up at the rest, only Spurs could do this, and its one of the joys of supporting them, you never know whats next?, as I said before 'it only takes one man to start a revolution'

Anyone remember that in the Birmingham game Adebayor had an opportunity to roll the ball to Bendtner for a possible 3-1. If that goes in, then the penalty at the end doesnt matter and possibly, just possibly the Arsenal Juggernaut to the title would have stayed on track. The Adebayor-Bendtner "fight" may have had a big part to play. I beleive that Adebayor did see Bendtner but instead chose to try to score instead of passing.
Essexian76 (14/05/2008 02:36) Comment Quote Report abuse Accountability The one element missing from this uninformed pile of garbage is that any transaction that Spurs make must be registered as we are a PLC and therefore accountable to our shareholders...I.E. We cant spend what we aint got!, so if we've got it ...we spend it on players, which is a really good idea for a football club, isnt it?

Yes. I remember Adebayor trying to score in an aqward position rather than passing the ball to Bendtner, who could easily have put the ball in the net. And finished the game off. In quite a few games this season it seamed Arsenal was so supirior they could walk to victory. Including away to Man. United and away against Liverpool in the CL. But they didn´t take their chances and suddenly struggled.
