The amount of the interest that English managers show in the Champions League is no secret, but as it becomes increasingly difficult to fight on both fronts, it's becoming more apparent that one has to be given priority over the other. Managers and players want to win everything, but if it came down to it, which would the fans prefer - the Premier League or the Champions League?

Manchester United:  Undoubtedly England's biggest team, winning the title on many occasions with most likely the best-ever manager in football. After a bad start to the season just completed, and nine years after the 1999 treble, they still managed to grab the Premier League crown and lift the Champions League title. Sir Alex Ferguson, in his 22 years at Manchester United, has won everything there is to win in domestic football - Premiership/Premier League (10), FA Cup (5), League Cup (2), Charity Shield (7), to really  dominate the English game. With his second (and United's third) Champions League title clinched on Wednesday, Sir Alex still wants more European success to not only be dominant in his domestic campaigns but in Europe as well. Having already achieved a double and a treble, United are perhaps one of the few teams capable of competing on both fronts. Fans' Preference: Champions League

'Arsenal fell at the final hurdle in the Champions League against Barcelona two years ago and that blow still sticks in the memory'

Chelsea: Since the Roman Abramovich revolution, Chelsea have seen three different managers at Stamford Bridge. Claudio Ranieri, Jose Mourihno and Avram Grant have all failed in a bid to bring the Champions League title to London, with Grant just missing out to Manchester United this week. Abramovich is very keen on an attractive style of football and the big titles. There are none bigger than the Champions League and the owner, manager and the players along with the fans, all wish to add that trophy to their already growing portfolio to prove to the world that they are in fact one of the world's biggest and best. Fans' Preference: Champions League

Liverpool: Liverpool have been the most successful English team in the Champions League in both the record books and in recent history. Rafa Benitez seems to be more adept on the European front than at home, which has bought great success, but at the cost of a serious Premier League push. The fans long to add to the 18 top-flight titles with a Premier League title win but there is still a huge gap to be bridged between themselves and the top. Fans' Preference: Premier League

Arsenal: Arsenal fell at the final hurdle in the Champions League against Barcelona two years ago and that blow still sticks in the memory. It's been four years since their last success in the league and after successive trophy-less seasons the fans are starting to become agitated at the lack of silverware. Having never won the Champions League is something that Arsene Wenger wants to rectify to truly put his name on the list of great managers. Fans' Preference: Champions League

It’s not such a clear-cut choice as to which of the titles fans want most. It is clear that Manchester United's priority is the Champions League while Liverpool fans would give anything for another league title. With a couple of league titles already under their belt, Chelsea fans would probably settle for a Champions League trophy, especially after going so close in Moscow this week. Arsenal? Well, their fans would probably settle for a trophy of any kind right now.

It’s the old story of wanting want they can’t get.
