Snooker is the loser as Jimmy White's whirlwind blows out
The man who lost a staggering six Crucible finals has become a gentle sea breeze after failing even to qualify for this year's event. Without a doubt he is the best player never to win the 'big one'.

The majority of snooker (and Jimmy White) fans all over the world knew quite some time ago that "The Whirlwind" was never going to realise his dream.
If there was one British sportsman who deserved to win the world title in his chosen field it was Jimmy. God knows he came close so many times, producing memorable finals and scintillating entertainment.
Alex Higgins was the first true glamour snooker player but White took over the helm effortlessly and turned snooker into the unmissable spectacle it was during those halcyon days of the 80s.
Viewing figures were quite incredible and White, with his cheeky demeanour and exciting style of play, was at the forefront of this revolution. A true character of the game and gracious in defeat.
