Alan D. Abbey, Founder, President and CEO. Alan founded Abbey Content Enterprises after a career as an award-winning journalist and content entrepreneur in the U.S. and Israel. He has covered everything from the White House to the Intifada, from small town school board meetings to the Texas Sesquicentennial. He is an Internet content pioneer, and has developed several major news Web sites. “I founded Abbey Content Enterprises after I saw how we could offer high quality editing and writing services at offshore prices to media companies and businesses in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.,” Alan says. "We have developed a 'virtual newsroom' for our customers." Prior to starting Abbey Content Enterprises, Alan founded and edited Ynetnews.com, the English-language website of Yedioth Ahronoth, Israel's largest newspaper. Ynetnews.com has come from nowhere to challenge the news and audience supremacy of other English news websites based in Israel. Alan continues with Ynetnews as a featured editorial and social affairs columnist. He founded Ynetnews in 2004 after three years at the Jerusalem Post, where he was Editor-in-Chief and Executive Director of JPost.com, as well as a Senior Writer and Editor. JPost.com is one of the world's premier website brands, and reaches a large and influential global audience. In 2003 Alan authored "Journey of Hope: The Story of Ilan Ramon, Israel's First Astronaut." Prior to joining the Jerusalem Post, Alan established and ran the Israel operations of Internet.com. Before that, he developed content channels and partnerships for Virtual Jerusalem, a pioneering Internet community. Earlier in his career, Alan spent more than 20 years as a journalist in the U.S., where he was an award-winning editor and reporter at newspapers and news bureaus in Washington, D.C., New York, New Jersey, Oregon and Vermont. He also founded and ran a trade newsletter for the kosher food industry. Alan received a Knight Fellowship in 1994 to study electronic media, and was among the first journalists to learn about and make use of Mosaic, an early Web browser. Alan has lectured on the news media, Israel, and the Internet before media executives, university, and community groups in the U.S., Israel, and Europe. Alan has appeared on and hosted radio and television programs in Vermont, New York, and Israel. He was a Washington-based national correspondent for Radio Free Europe. His weekly column on Ynetnews has been cited by world media such as The Guardian and Swiss TV. His work has been published by The Baltimore Sun, Jewish.com, Houston Chronicle and other newspapers, magazines and Web sites. He is frequently interviewed and cited in Internet and journalism industry publications. Alan is a contributing editor to the influential Internet industry blog, E-Media Tidbits, from the Poynter Institute. He also is one of the select group of journalists worldwide contributing to the new blog, Morph, from the Media Center in Reston, Va. Alan has a Master’s Degree in Journalism from the University of Oregon, and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University at Albany. He has won numerous writing and editing awards. He is a native of Brooklyn, New York, and lives in Jerusalem with his wife and three children.
