Change of name sparked a change of fortune for the newly-renamed Al Hudaity Teknika Skills team in the Inter-company Open category of the First Western Union FILBAR basketball tournament.

Manager Tess Garcia was delighted as her Skills beat the MAD-JAAS Federation 94-67. But it was no walk in the park for Teknika team as MAD-JAAS proved worthy contenders and were in the game until the middle of the third quarter.

Veteran phenomenon Jojo Custodio, at 5ft 8in, was unstoppable as he compiled 27 points, 13 of them in the decisive third quarter, while Ed Pening, an ex-pro player from Visayas, helped himself to 21 points including two triples.

The big men for Teknika also controlled the boards with 12 rebounds from James Smith and nine from Pening.

Gerald Forfueto’s efforts could not be denied as he poured on 23 points for MAD-JAAS, while veteran center Ibrahim Pabuna scored 16.

In the other game Inter-company Open (Premier) Division game, the Global Aklanon's fiery run in the final quarter kept them just ahead of Dadors for a thrilling 103-99 win.

Noel David, a former PBA/PBL player and newly-acquired by the Global Aklanon squad, exploded for a personal high 31 points, while Kokie Cuerto, their Jubail-based ace shooting guard, added 21. Eric Sison also had 18 points and 12 rebounds as the Aklanon survived a close game.

Jeff Salac came up big with 30 points for Dadors, six from beyond the arc. Ador Aguinaldo also scored 20 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, but they couldn't hold off Aklanon.
