Dear Rockets fans: Are you tired of having a promising NBA season ultimately finish in complete and utter disappointment? Do you wish Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming would have the decency to play beyond the first round of the playoffs? Do you want a return to the glory days of the mid-’90s? Well, Houston, we have a solution.

There appears to be a disgruntled Laker who wants out of Los Angeles. You may have heard of him. Trade rumours have been circulating that Chicago and Dallas are the front-runners to acquire this future Hall of Famer. But you, too, can get in on the action by urging your general manager, Daryl Morey, to make this deal. The Lakers are asking for your best three players, but knowing that Kobe Bryant can opt of out his contract in two years, they will become more desperate as the months pass.

What you need to do is trade T-Mac and a recently returned prodigal son, Steve Francis. If the Lakers don't feel that's enough, you can sweeten the pot by adding Bonzi Wells, a proven veteran, or Aaron Brooks, an exciting rookie prospect, or better still, a future first round draft pick. You don't even have to give up your big man because the Lakers have this ridiculous notion that their big man is a star in the making, so much so that they weren't prepared to trade him for Jason Kidd last season.

They also believe that Phil Jackson is a genius and will help McGrady become a playoff winner, and get Francis's career back on track, thus filling a need at the point guard position.

'I realise that a trade for Kobe may be wishful thinking, and that if he leaves Los Angeles he'll probably go to Chicago in his quest to be the second coming of Michael Jordan.'

Kobe, on the other hand will play hard for you every night because he's still in a big market, has an all-star team-mate he can pass to when he can't get a shot off, or when his wrists get tired, and he'll probably help you get past the first round of the playoffs. That can be a positive first step for your Rockets team which already has talent, but needs big-game experience.

I realise that a trade for Kobe may be wishful thinking, and that if he leaves Los Angeles he'll probably go to Chicago in his quest to be the second coming of Michael Jordan. But if you are to get serious about winning in the playoffs this year, and in years to come, changes need to be made.

To quote from an actual genius, Albert Einstein: "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results."
