Mark the day in your diary. Wednesday, December 12, was a day made for breaking records in Women's Euroleague basketball.

Kosice welcomed Spartak Moscow Region to the Steel Arena (an arena usually used for hockey) which has capacity for about 8,000 people. Could they break the Women's Euroleague attendance record held by Pecs?

The record had been just over 5,000 but Kosice smashed the record with a near-capacity attendance of over 7,000 fans. And even though Spartak are the current champions and proved to be a far better team, the atmosphere in the arena was absolutely marvellous.

'After the first quarter Moscow Region were in the lead by only two points'

The start of the game was very dynamic with both teams scoring as the pace quickened. And with the crowd cheering, Kosice showed they were ready to fight. After the first quarter Moscow Region were in the lead by only two points.

Unfortunately for Kosit, with Spartak having players like Jackson, Taurasi, Bird, of Matovic even 7,000 people are not enough to win the game. And by the end of first half the score was 42-31 for Spartak.

The game finished 84-62 for Spartak with Jackson and and Taurasi pickup up 16 and 15 points respectively. The best scorers for Kosice were Michulkova with 16, and Kovacova, and Jalcova both 10 points. Nevertheless as a fan I have to say that although Spartak Moscow Region won the game, the fans were the real winners.
