I can hardly remember a happy retirement of a Pakistani cricket player in the recent past. Even greats like Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis could not escape the scorn.

It should not matter that the player is in the final part of his career, these people have served the nation. And it's sad that we only remember the low moments in their lives when we talk about 'disgraceful' retirements from cricket, but there is no doubt as to the greatness of their contributions to Pakistan cricket.

The latest one is Inzamam ul-Haq. And it's going to be another sad farewell. He announced that he is going to retire after the Lahore test with South Africa. Let's hope he retires from the game gracefully and that we will remember his last, long walk back to the pavilion.

We should learn from Aussies in this area. The retirements of Steve Waugh and Shane Warne set up the drama really well and it was emotiomal just to watch their retirement scenes. Our guys also deserve respect as ambassadors of the country.

There is no finger-pointing as I do agree that the players are to blame as well. You need to be disciplined and watch your image as with it comes the country’s image.

There is a lot to learn for the young Pakistan cricketers from these sad scenes and mistakes of the greats. No matter how well you did, your retirement scenes will be a memory for the rest of your life.
