It’s the dawn of a new age for Australian cricket. For the first time in living memory (if you’re a six-year-old), Australia will take to the field in a Test match without Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath to spearhead the attack. As human beings, we are conditioned to be wary of the unknown. As a cricket fan, I’m terrified by the prospect of starting a game without those two superstars. The first Test series of the Australian summer is shaping up to be a lot more interesting than the last offering against the Poms. Sri Lanka and Australia seem to bring out the best – and occasionally the worst – in each other. They are developing a rivalry that offers more interest than the Ashes, with England in current form. The Australian batting line-up remains mostly unchanged and is still the most dominant in world cricket. Adding Phil Jacques to the mix doesn’t diminish it in any way. Jacques has been the heir apparent to an opening slot for a number of years. In any other country he would have had 50 Tests under his belt by now. 'Whoever the selectors eventually settle on, they have treated MacGill and Hogg with a complete lack of respect'The rest – Matthew Hayden, Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke, Michael Hussey, Andrew Symonds and Adam Gilchrist – would strike fear into the heart of any attack. They offer tremendous balance and rarely all have a bad day together. The bowling, on the other hand, is a long way short of what we’ve grown accustomed to. The loss of Warne and McGrath is difficult to overestimate. These are the two pillars on which Australian sides have been built for 15 years and they will not be easy to replace. Stuart Clark is the best bet. He is a player very much in the mould of McGrath, bowling consistent line and length. He has already had some success at Test level, but has been a bit of a disappointment in the one-dayers. For now, all that matters is the Test series.

There is too much hype about Sri Lanka defeating Australia on their home soil. Australia went to India recently without McGrath and Warne. They had Indian team in tatters with pace bowling stalwarts Lee and Mitchel Johnson. And that too on flat lifeless wickets. And Australian batsmen dominated during most of the series. Test match in Australian grounds favor their batsmen and bowlers. And their batsmen are no dummies. If one falls, there is another one who fires. Sri Lanka could not even beat Queensland on a tour match. This Australian team may not win. But it will not lose either. It is way ahead of any other team in the world. Even if India goes with a better batting line up, they are going to face a tough time against Aussies this time. Good luck to Sri Lanka. It will be a miracle if they can pull something. But with Ricky Ponting as the captain, there is no chance for any team to take on Australia. Their bowlers are still too good, even if their batsmen are contained. If Srilankan batsmen fire, so will
the Australians. Sri Lanka's batting line up is not as strong as that of Australia. While their bowlers might get some gains, their batsmen will be a let down.

So Warne and McGrath have gone but its not like they have replaced them with average players Macgill is proven on the international stage same with Mitchell Johnson who is only going to get better i believe the Sri Lanka bowling attack will be tougher for the Aussie than there batting Murali and Vaas are quality players plus i think they with Sangakara all you need to do is remove Jayusuriya then your into the tail.

After watching the first few sessions between Aussie and Sri Lanka i think its fair to say Sri Lanka will struggle to bowl them out for anything under 1000, i use to think Vaas was good but bowling low 120's isnt going to get you wickets and the only wicket he got was because Hayden tried to hit him out of the stadium and Dilhara well he is pretty much a C grade player and there is no back up for Murali its going to be a long summer for the Sri Lankan boys.

"Sri Lanka will struggle to bowl them out for anything under 1000" Did you have a sleep Brad? Australia is good no doubt about it!Please, don't loose your perspective here. Fernando's a C grade bowler? Hey,, what alphabet you use in Ausland? Craig"Sri Lanka and Australia seem to bring out the best – and occasionally the worst – in each other" Correction! Australia managed to bring out the worse in themselves when they played Sri-Lanka in the past.SL batting will let them down, still, as long as they give it a go, we don't mind. We won't burn their homes.I am so glad that Murali's first wicket PONNA-TIN (as our petname for him).Soon, Murali haters will be in full throttle, Go Murali go, only 7 to go. Win or loose,Srilanka alldaway!
