Racism in cricket has been off the agenda over the past decade but Andrew Symonds has managed to stir things up twice in the last few months.

Yes, Indian fans were mocking him (this is supported by video evidence), but his allegation against Harbhajan Singh makes no sense.  If Harbhajan did say something to Symonds that hurt him, then I am all for punishing him and also fining the whole team to set an example. But there are still some unanswered questions.

1) In what ways might Bhajji [Harbhajan] have thought that by calling Symonds a "monkey", he would be superior to him or would be hurting him?

'Does dragging mothers and sisters into verbal slanging hurt anyone?'

My guess is none. If that had been the case then Bhajji should have been using this term to sledge cricketers from South Africa, Zimbabwe and West Indies. We have received no complaints from any of those teams .

2) Does dragging mothers and sisters into verbal slanging hurt anyone?

My guess is 'yes'; family is much closer to a person than his race. I still remember one such taunt on Chris Cairns's late sister made by Ricky Ponting after his dismissal.

3) During the whole fiasco and watching the video evidence it is very clear that Symonds confronted Bhajji first and who knows what he might have said to provoke him?

This could be anyone's guess but it is easier to mouth a few expletives rather than having to rack your brains to come up with "monkey".

The whole world knows that it was Zinedine Zidane who was punished for violence on a sports field but the person who provoked him walked away with no charge. It is very important for the ICC to take a few steps to curtail these issues. In short, if one party is provoking another, who is to blame?
