Couldnt have had a better start for the great man as the coach. I've always been a great fan of Kristen, though not as talented as the Kallis' and Pollocks' of South African cricket, he always typified grit, hardwork and application in the middle...Hope his outlook on cricket rubbs off on the younger lot in the indian team... He's a bit similar to John Wright, in that he doesnt really want the spot like, unlike guru Greg, so i'm sure he'll be quite popular with the squad...So i just hope for the best....

Gary Kirsten has not officially taken over as coach yet. He was just getting familiar with the team at Perth. I am sure he will bolster India's performance in years to come. I think at Perth, full credit should go to the Indian team under Kumble. They hung together and shocked the Aussies. Just the disbelief led to their defeat at Perth. Though I welcome Gary to the team, I do not feel inclined to give him credit yet.

kirsten isn't the coach yet..he has been there as more of a consultant..he will start his job after this tour and don't get me wrong..Indians played well in Sydney (for which the fair result is a draw)and if the umpires would have done a proper job India would have probably won that test..and they have 3 coaches venkatesh prasad who is considered very highly in the Indian cricketing fraternity,Robin singh and Lalchand Rajput (India won T20 world cup under his aegis)..So crediting this win to Kirsten is not only unfair but foolish.

Greg obviously your job is to write rubbish that gets a conversation going. Kirsten had absolutely nothing to do with India's victory.

although gary kirsten is not the coach yet, he did give the team great support for this test, so by saying he did not have anything at all to do with the victory can almost be construed as racist :). he encouraged dravid to bat at three and suggested that pathan and sewag come back into the team. if you read news reports from before the match, kirsten was very positive in encouraging the indian team to be positive about playing on the waca pitch and even compiled a report about his experiences in playing in australia (and the waca for that matter). when the team came off the field after completing the win, kirsten was one of the first people (in indian kit) to congratulate the team. come on india!!

Let us not make every comment into a racial one. Placing Dravid, in his currrent form, either at slot 1 or 3 is a bad move. Laxman should have been in slot 3 instead of Dravid. Laxman ran out of partners in the second innings and had to try scoring runs and got out in the bargain. Following Sehwag, Laxman would have squeezed the Aussie bowlers even more in the first and second innings. Dravid keeps giving hope to bowlers in his current form and brings on unnecessary pressure on himself and his team. Gary's suggestion was a bad one. Somehow, Dravid made it in the first innings and failed in the second when he was badly needed. Kirsten was suggesting how to play at the WACA to the batsmen. There were no bowling tips. But if you see the result, it was the bowlers who won the match for India. The batsmen did do somewhat all right, but again the tail enders had to rescue the team in the second innings. So I do not see what Kirsten had suggested here that was useful. This Indian team has done well since May 2007 w

i'm just following mr. gavaskar's example by calling anything that moves racist :) why is it difficult to acknowledge kirsten? surely his input will just enhance the talent that we all know the indian squad has? would it be easier for you to give kudos to kapil dev if he was coach? if kirsten has not had an input, why did he speak to the media on behalf of the indian team? it's a profesional sport and any positive influence a team can get should be celebrated and not discredited because the person is not of the same nationality. oh and by the way, india scored more runs than australia, i'd say that had something to do with the batting? i'm just happy australia lost - who cares how.
I have nothing against Kirsten. But the above article gives the impression that he is behind India's win at Perth. Kirsten definitely gave some valuable advice to the team. So did Dennis Lillie on how to use the Fremantle Doctor effectively. Ian Chappell kept asking for letting Sehwag open the innings. From that view point, everyone's input has been valuable. More than me accepting Kirsten, it will be interesting to see how the Indian team accommodates him and how he blends in and gets the best out of them, how he tackles defeats, which happen a lot with teams from the sub-continent. They win when not expected and lose when not expected as well.

Indian selectors are fools how can you leave Sehwag and Pathan out? Sehwag didnt make a big score but he got the innings of to a positive start and Pathan got man of the match. I still think they should get rid of Dravid and look to the future hes so boring to watch bat and even if he scores a 100 he doesnt hurt the opposition team because its so slow plus adds pressure to Tendulkar and laxman to score quicker. The aussie selectors arent much better if they had any brains they would have opened with michael hussey and added either adam voges or david hussey who i think can be better than his brother.

Simon Katich is in excellent form. Somehow the Australian selectors do not change the team for too long. At least when playing on home grounds, they should try out a player or two to set up the stage for the future. I would have taken Katich in place of Chris Rogers. Also Bill Hilfenhaus should have been allowed to go at the Indian team, which is also vulnerable against good swing bowling. At Perth he could have turned the tables. At least a couple of players must be tried in a series. Winning every match is good. But one has to build a better future. They tried Tait at Perth. I wish he could bowl at Adelaide. I am sure he will come around there. But there is no room for him. Ponting should persist with his four pacemen one more time.

A quick review of Greg Smith's articles indicates that he has an un-natural hatred of all things Australian. And an overly inflated opinion of everything South African. Perhaps he thinks that his rabid support for his country will lift their mediocre cricket team to new heights. Who knows? I do however know that I want be wasting my time reading any more of his propaganda.

This sort of forum posting endangers articles that provide true sporting content and healthy discussion, I will be continuously emailing the moderators of this page to monitor this sort of biased posting by the above until action is taken. God help us all when South Africa do win something the whole Sportingo web page will be taken over by Greg Smith and his constant dribbling.
