Charl Langeveldt has withdrawn from the race controversy plaguing the South African cricket team to tour India. Cricket fans are rushing to give Charl the thumbs up and heap praise on him for his bold move of defiance.

South African cricket boss Gerald Majola was called by Langeveldt and told: “I can't perform at my peak in this mess.” The race row has depleted the Proteas' camp and is eroding their strength and winning momentum.

Langeveldt has sided with fans and “fallen on his own sword”. Proteas' supporters see his move as a show of solidarity. Charl is our man and a team player.

What a great sacrifice, what a desperately difficult decision it must be to forfeit a wonderful opportunity to tour India and possibly ruin your career. Well done, for truly taking one for the team, Charl.

I think this is indicative of the camaraderie in the camp. The team is a solid unit and Langeveldt and Andre Nel are good friends. I wonder if Nel will be reselected and this whole debacle will be the flame that ignites him to blaze through India.

The current mess in the Proteas' camp highlights the complexities of race in cricket and fans support Charl Langeveldt for giving CSA “the finger” for their feeble attempt to wave a black and white wand to make everything all right.

In my opinion, no one would lose out if Herschelle Gibbs and Nel were to be re-selected for the India tour. This incident could then be written off as a bit of media hype which ultimately also castes (sic) doubt on the integrity of their opponents' selection policies, leaving South Africa ”untouchable”.

If you didn't fear the Proteas before, I think you should as we plough through India.
