Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea prove the Premier League is best...of a bad bunch
Without the Big Four the Premier League would be at best mediocre. For a league where the underdogs have a shout, look no further than Spain.

The Premier League has been vaunted as the best league in the world. Its supporters point to the fact that the full set of four Premier League sides have moved on to the Champions League quarter-final stage, which is undoubtedly impressive.
But does that point to a healthy domestic league? The fact that no English clubs made it to the UEFA Cup last eight supports the argument that the parasitic Big Four have bled the domestic league dry, and that whilst they are scoffing from European football’s top table they don’t throw any scraps down to the cur-dogs waiting underneath.
This lack of competitive and consistent challengers outside the Big Four really hampers the argument that the Premier League is the pinnacle of domestic club football.
Aside from Blackburn Rovers, the winners of the Premier League have been one of three teams, Manchester United, Arsenal, or Chelsea, and despite the excitement over the fresh breeze of new and more exotic signings in the summer, the big teams, and the big teams alone keep on winning in this stagnant league.

The fact that you are an american triggered alarm bells, then the article backed up my suspicion. The fact that villareal are challenging for a champion league spot is your basis here- what about Everton? and the fact that english football has produced 4 teams for the quarters of the cl is proof enough. Most skillful and technical? Probably not (with the exceptions of united and arsenal) Most effective? Proven time and time again

lets face it, in england its usually the big three (liverpool have not won it for years, the mith of a big four is wrong, liverpool are the top fours ugle runt sister who never challenge for the title) scot land the big 2 spain the big three holand the big 2 italy the big four portugal the big 3 germany the big 3etc etc etc i could go on, facts are facts, all of these teams have history a fan base and the players behind them to mean they have out grown the league (the exception here chelsea, as before 2001 no real world class player that any of the big teams would of wanted would have taken a second look at joining them, but theys a billionaires cheque book for you) add it all up it maks for one impressive european super league just imagine, man u, arsenal, chelsea, liverpool, barca, real madrid, seville, inter milan, juve, ac milan, roma, latsio, b munich, verda brennen, shalkta 4, rangers, celtic, sporting lisbon, benfica, porto, ajax, lyon, marseilles, lets face it its the nex logical step for these giants, it would give the other leagues a real chance to see who is the best, and the super league would mean teams like united or juve actually may come bottom of the league, it would also add value to the fa cup and league cups of the respectd nations as the big clubs would have to take them more serious as it would be the only way of expressing there footballing genius in there own countrys, but lets face it the premier league would fight that all the way, as they need man u liverpool arsenal and chelsea to pull foriegn viewers in lets face do you honsetly think the chinese or japs want to watch man city v derby or wigan v sunderland, no i am afraid that the premir league would be shown for the leeches they are, and finally man city would relise they are nothing with out man u (financially speaking of course) everton are nothing without liverpool and totenham are nothing without chelsea and arsenal, come on does a city fan really think people abroad pay to watch that garbage, i for on am sick of teams coming to old trafford and putting fivein the middle to try and stiffle us, could you see real madrid doing that,no teams like reading bolton man city ned to be lined up and shot when they do that, its criminal, really criminal considring even the lowest paid bolton playerwill earn more in a week then i do all year

When was the last time Arsenal gobbled up a player who was playing for one of the less successful sides in the premiership. Man U get players that way as do Chelsea. Diarra has already played for two of the top four so he has already lept into there arms, but he won't wait his turn.

The fact that you are an american triggered alarm bells,
Work on my comprehension skills? It says you live in Michigan. Mr Bottomley (very indicative name btw) you can only only base an opinion on the information that you know, and that is that you live in america. I do not know, or wish to know, where you lived previously. It is hardly a mad assumption now is it

I hear bout the premiership being the greatest league because of successful teams NO! The fact that 4 teams are still in the champions league doesn't mean the league is the best, it means that those teams are successful and full of quality. The reason the premiership is the best league in the world is because on any day, any team can beat any other team. I know I know 8 times out of ten man u would beat most teams however you do get those 2 out if 10 times that causes real shocks and upsets. Finally it is the pace of our game that makes the premiership the best, the direct approach is entertaining and interesting. One last point that I will raise is the uefa cup just because there are no English teams in the uefa cup doesn't mean they are poor sides. You get those one off cup results where (on the day) one team wants it more than the other. Don't believe me? Allow me to draw your attention to the FA cup (with all due respect of course)
No the premiership is not the best league in Europe.... Its the BEST LEAGUE IN THE WORLD.....fact.

Just thought i'd put this out there to the Man U fans saying Liverpool don't occupy a place amoung the top teams in England. Well...bad article to choose, and article about Europe> It's been 9 years since United fluked two goals in stoppage time, and the other two...lets not even both going there! Liverpool are Englands best team in Europe - FACT, can't argue with it, don't try. End.

Can't argue with it? I beg to differ. True pool have won the UCL 5 times. But let me remind you that its not far from celebrating pool's 20th anniversary. 20 years since they last won the league. European glory is all well and good. But every team has to concentrate on their bread and butter first. i.e. Their domestic league. A league shows more about a team's calibre than a cup competition. Luck has too big a part to play in cup competitions. And do not forget that it is not incredulous to suggest that pool might not be competing in e UCL next season. I am not a 'anti pool' united fan. I respect them. But I can't accept that pool is the best representative of England. What is interesting is the fact that a team that is struggling to cement 4th place in the EPL frightens europe's other top clubs. Perhaps this in itself speaks volumes of the English Domestic League?
