Cricket's Fight Club - and a South African pummelling for the Aussies
Ricky Ponting and Co may think they are cricket's wild boys, but they will meet their match in the Proteas Posse when the teams square up later this year. The gentleman's game, it ain't.

A recent headline in Wisden about fears of an outbreak of on-field violence got me thinking.
You'll recall vexed sandpit debates over Marvel Comic superheroes, the eternal arguments over why Batman would kick Spider-Man's butt and how even a gay Incredible Hulk would really stick it to Kermit the Frog.
Well, Scyld Berry is the new man at Wisden, and he really got me thinking after I read his comment: "I fear the day is approaching when a high-profile, televised cricket match will see an outbreak of physical violence on the field."
I began to wonder about the outcome of an Australia-South African on-field brawl where the Fight Club scorecard shows South Africa ahead 11-0. Talk about a whipping!

The big difference between Australia and other teams is the way they approach the game and execute their plans. They carefully look at the weakness of every player. If any crack can be found, they zero in on that and open them wide. They try to hit hard on the worst weakness first. Once the knee has been hit, teams begin to feel the psychological pressure. They weaken their opponents further by capitalizing on it. It takes enormous efforts to take the assault into their camp. And it needs very high talent and energy to stay up against them. They never get pulled down by one defeat. They never play for a draw. Every match counts even against a street cricket team. To beat Australia, one needs to acquire these qualities. It looks like a culture that is well settled. But SA has a good chance at being a top team and can at least beat Australia on their home ground if they put their determination to it. But in the long run, if they can keep the crown or not is the question.
