The excitement and entertainment provided by Twenty20 has aleady made it one of the most popular forms of the game after the success of ICL and IPL.

IPL was seen as a huge success even before its start due to the teams being put together with some of the best players in the world - and ten days into the tournament it has exceeded all expectations.

ICL was a combination of veterans and junior players and provided great entertainment as well as upsets like the defeat of Lahore Badshahs in the final.

'Nobody has enough time to sit and watch four-day long matches'

Now compare Twenty20 to English county cricket with its four-day matches, which cannot get near to the short form in terms of entertainment value. Nobody has enough time to sit and watch such long matches.

Many people do not have any interest even in Test cricket due to the length and the rows of empty seats on some days are testament to this fact. County cricket must move with the times or it runs the risk of fading away because of the increasing popularity of IPL and ICL.

IPL, with BCCI's backing, has become the richest domestic cricket league in the world. And even though ICL has not enjoyed the BCCI's backing, it has still been a success.

The great thing about IPL is the stunning cricket from the likes of Brendon McCullum, Michael Hussey, Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist. Yes, there has been controversy as well - the cheerleaders and Harbhajan Singh slapping Sri Sreesanth spring to mind. Harbhajan has plenty of time to mull over what he did during his 11-match ban.

It is possible that a combination of Twenty20 and IPL will hammer a nail into county, and who knows, Test cricket too.
