Since the days of Tommy Simpson, who tragically died after a stage of the Tour de France, due to taking drugs to enhance performance or just to keep you going. There has always been an undercurrent of drug taking and it will always be there. It is a case of Can I find more ways to enhance my performance than you can find. It is one mind against another. How far can this be pushed? Who actually peddles the drugs? Will we ever really know? As is the the case with the tour, there are several mountains to climb before this drug taking can if ever be eradicated from such a fine sport.

For the first time in 25 years, I will not be watching the Tour de France. It's the only sporting event I've ever tuned into so loyally. But not this year. This year I see a raced shamed. Not by the cyclists who stand accused but because of the hubris and vinegar of Mr. Prudhomme. The race is dead for now. Killed by premature announcements against Floyd Landis. What's more ironic for me, is that I only recorded two stages last year...the prologue, and Stage 17, the famous moment of Landis. Ou revoir le Tour, c'est la vie
