Wayne Rooney hit top gear, scoring one and making the other as Manchester United battered Blackburn at Ewood Park. It really was a battering, although the 2-0 scoreline might not reflect it. It was only some misfortune in front of goal and good goalkeeping that kept the margin of victory down.
United dominated the match from start to finish, looking extremely incisive on the attack. After missing some early chances and overcoming a scare at the other end, their domination finally paid off when Rooney’s cross was headed in by Wes Brown on the half-hour mark.
Speaking of Brown, he had a fantastic game as well, looking rock solid at the back and scoring a goal at the other end. He really has answered his critics well with a fine display.
Back to the match, and United didn’t stop at their one-goal lead, continuing to attack and looking for that second, killer goal. And on the hour mark, they finally got it, courtesy of Rooney. He really has looked in great nick and his recent performances have definitely shown that. It seems that the arrival of Dimitar Berbatov has had a good effect on him.
Blackburn might have been hoping United would ease up on them after the second, but the visitors attacked even more, with Rooney coming close and Tevez hitting the post. But it hardly mattered as Sir Alex Ferguson’s side ran out comfortable winners in the end.
Take it from this United fan, they really seem to be hitting top form - the kind that won them the double last season.
