Spurs are in need of characters right now. The squad are desperately short of a leader, a role model figure, in this time of darkness as we  teeter on the relegation borderline.

The threat is becoming much more of a reality by the game - but do Juande Ramos's men really have what it takes to pull themselves up from nothing? Can we make it back up to the top  end of the table? These questions need clarifying and I am sure that opinions will differ from person to person.

Despite a good squad performance, Spurs suffered yet another home defeat at the hands of Hull City. They travel to the Britannia Stadium this weekend to face another of the Premier League newcomers, Stoke City, in a game that could be the turning point. And the players and fans need to treat it as if it were the Carling Cup or FA Cup final.

The fact is, Spurs need to turn the heat up - otherwise I don’t think we will be able to bridge the gap between us and our nearest escape point from the relegation zone.

Confidence needs to be instilled into the team. The players are making the situation worse for themselves by stating that the club is a 'laughing stock'. I am pointing no fingers specifically but this kind of talk is seeing beatable teams entering our stadium, taking advantage of our situation and walking away with all three points.

Spurs need a bit of bite - a bit of cockiness, in fact. It needs people to stand up for our club as opposed to treading it further into the boggy ground we as fans are squelching on.

I do not feel personally that relegation is an option, purely because our squad is too good. But this is not to say that we could be sitting on the brink of it.

I have learned a lesson  - not to take victories for granted any more, as we now know that when a team are going through tough times, success can be hard to come by.

With regards to Ramos, he too has a major role to play in the outcome of our season. He also needs a boost in confidence. I’m sick and tired of all this defeatist talk. We are Tottenham Hotspur - a proud club with 125 years of  bold and glorious history!

Spurs and Ramos will need the attitude of a British bulldog from now on. By this I mean no surrender, never submit - and never back down. This kind of approach is needed and unfortunately it is something money can't buy.

Tottenham most definitely have the quality of players so this should not be a problem,  although lessons must be learned and taken into the January transfer window. It is not world-class talent we are looking for, just players with pride in wearing our beautiful badge on their strip.

Just two points from so many league fixtures is simply not good enough and we must go that extra bit further against Stoke. Can Ramos save us?
