With a new crop of young English talent emerging on the Premier League scene, it looks to be an exciting time for the future of English football. But will all this talent ever achieve its true potential?

With the likes of Danny Wellbeck (Manchester United), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal), Freddie Sears (West Ham) and John Bostock (Tottenham), we appear to have a solid number of young stars ready to burst on to the big stage. But will they ever reach the high levels we are expecting them to?

Only a minority of youngsters reach their full potential and make it to the international scene, with many eventually leaving their clubs for the lower tiers of the football league.

Jon Harley, and more recently Chris Eagles, looked to be full of promise at one point, but they have now settled for mediocrity in the Championship along with a host of players who have also failed to step up a level at the right time.

There is always pressure on these youngsters to fulfil their potential and go all the way to the top, but is this pressure hindering their progress?

The current crop of youngsters looks to be the finest we have had in a long while and it seems the top clubs are willing to give them a fair chance of first-team action and nurture them through the ranks into quality players.

It is clear that England can have a great squad in a few years time as long as these youngsters are able to step up to the next level and maintain regular appearances with their respective Premier League clubs.
