After hearing that Ryan Giggs has won the PFA Player of the Year award, any remaining respect I had for the Premier League has gone out of the window. It's like a completely different league in a world of its own up there, and I for one can only hope that the rest of the Football League does not end up like this, dominated by money and fame and giving out awards based on sentiment rather than genuine ability. It is obviously the dream of every football fan to see their team reach the Premier League - but for what?! Promoted teams either come straight back down or languish mid-table for a few years - before eventually coming back down and being in a worse position than when they went up.
Once you're in the Premier League, there is realistically nothing you can aim for. Your chances of winning the title are non-existent, qualifying for Europe just as unlikely.
The only thing that teams can hope for is to survive and play out meaningless season after meaningless season before catching a bit of luck and maybe, just maybe, getting together a side that could push for sixth or seventh place (see Fulham this season).Give me League One's nail-biting uncertainty any day of the week thank you very much.
As a lifelong Huddersfield Town fan, I've witnessed more highs and lows than most Premier League fans will in their entire lifetime.
The thrill of going to the pub for pre-match drinks and attempting to make wild predictions about how the day's unpredictable fixture will pan out is all about the experience of the game for me. To sit for 90 minutes not knowing what the next kick of the ball will bring simply adds to the beauty of true football.
I dread the day when my team sit atop the Premier League and every match is met with an expectation of success, because the only two feelings fans experience at that level are contentedness or disappointment.
Winning the Premier League title for Manchester United or Chelsea fans doesn't bring the same feeling as a gruelling play-off win in the lower tiers of the Football League - no matter what they tell you.

...but I would take a few league titles over mid-table mediocrity in League One any day of the week. I would like nothing more than to lord it over the rest of England football-wise. However, we both know that is probably never going to happen - the only thing we have over Man United and Chelsea is we don't have trouble getting a seat every week and no-one thinks you're a predictable glory supporter when you tell them who you support. Still - always nice to see Town articles in sites other than the usual places.

First off, Ryan Giggs is a great player. Second, he only got the PFA because he has never received it and there was NO real winner. It was like saying, we know you are retiring soon and your dedication to the sport is outstanding, here, just take it. It's like when martin scorsese won his oscar. he's never won it before and they just gave it to him.

So there we have it. The PFA Awards become "Jolly Nice Bloke" awards. There were plenty of players who could justifiably lay claim to the honour. The fact that they don't necessarily play in the "big four" means that their achievements go largely unnoticed.
