Much like every summer for the last two or three years, this one has started with Cesc Fabregas being linked with a move away from Arsenal and back to Spain.

Spanish football giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are both keen on securing the midfielder’s signature and it was even suggested that Fabregas had decided his future was in his home country. It seemed it was simply a case of where he would go, not if he would go.

However, in a boost for Arsenal fans everywhere, this has been dismissed by the man himself. Instead of jumping ship, Fabregas has revealed he intends to stay at the ‘great club’ that is Arsenal.

The Spaniard has said he is "wholeheartedly committed" to the Gunners, a point that he wanted to make crystal clear to anyone who may have misunderstood his position.

Fabregas wasn’t done there, though. Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, he said that although he is "angry that we have not won a trophy for four years", it does not mean he is going to give up on a team that he greatly believes in.

The 22-year-old is clearly confident that success is just around the corner for Arsene Wenger’s team and this is refreshing to hear. In a time when money often speaks louder than anything else in football, it is excellent to see a young man so committed to a cause.

Fabregas seems to believe he let the Arsenal fans down last season by missing so much of it through injury and is determined to make it up to them. This is credit to his personality and his loyalty.

Just in case anyone was uncertain about where Fabregas’s future lies at this stage, he went on to say that he will always be "proud to captain this team and proud to wear the shirt." This really must be really good for all Arsenal fans to hear.

Not only do they have one of the most talented midfielders in the world, they have a captain who is determined to bring success to their club. For his sake, let’s hope that the Gunners manage to upset the football odds and win something next year.

Let’s face it, if they had 11 Cesc Fabregas' in their team, this wouldn’t be much of a problem at all.
