Having finished his loan spell at Italian football giants AC Milan, David Beckham is now back in America and ready to play for LA Galaxy. And he hasn’t had the best of returns so far.

Becks was criticised by Galaxy captain Landon Donovan for a lack of commitment to the Major League Soccer club.

The American thought that for the amount Beckham was getting paid, he should ''show up to every game'' regardless of whether he is suspended or injured.

Clearly, Donovan wanted a bit more passion and loyalty from the England man.

Beckham hit back at these claims by stating that Donovan’s comments were ''unprofessional'' and that he will always give everything he has got to the LA Galaxy cause.

The reality is, though, that Beckham was given the chance to play for one of the most famous clubs in the world – AC Milan – and because he wanted to stay in the England squad, he couldn’t turn it down.

So, if he was being slightly less committed to LA Galaxy, it was only because he was so committed to his country and to keeping his place for the World Cup next year.

With this in mind, there is a distinct possibility that Beckham will again have to return to Europe at the end of the MLS season in a bid to keep up his fitness levels and maintain his form at the highest level.

England manager Fabio Capello has urged him to do just that, so if Beckham is deadly serious about playing for England in South Africa, he has to test his relationship with Donovan and LA Galaxy once more by going on a prolonged loan spell to a top European club.

The 34-year-old is aware of the request from Capello as well, so he knows what he needs to do.

Speaking about his future, Beckham revealed that leading up to the World Cup, the England boss has made it ''very clear'' that he needs to be playing European football.

Where would he go, though? That is almost the most interesting debate here. Would he still be welcome at AC Milan even though Carlo Ancelotti – who took Beckham on loan last season – has moved on from the San Siro?

Personally, I would love Beckham to return to the Premier League. Whether it be with Ancelotti at Chelsea, with the other superstars at Manchester City or with any other English club, It would be fantastic to see the former Manchester United man back in England.

Whatever he does, he will be doing for the good of his country though as he admitted that his number one priority at the moment was doing all he can to remain in Capello’s thinking ahead of the 2010 World Cup.
