England aren't out of it, according to this writer - but watch out for the American dark horses.

England, Germany, Brazil, Italy, France, Holland, Spain - these are the teams that everyone is talking about to win the World Cup next year. I'll talk about each of those teams - and an extra one!

England: They have shown they are at their best under Fabio Capello, being one of the top seeded teams to win. But what many haven't noticed is that many of the teams they have beaten aren't actually what you call 'big time'.
A lot of fans might tell me I am just jealous of England, but I am certainly not. They have good players (in fact amazing ones).
But the main problem is they don't do well against bigger teams, like Spain and Brazil. Also their injury problems are as big as Liverpool's. But I still think they can lift the trohpy after a very long time
Germany: I don't have much to say for the Germans as I rarely hear of them, but what I can say is they are in good form and are sure to be a threat next year.
Brazil: Oh yes, this is the team I think will definitely win the World Cup in South Africa. They have won many of their games as though the magic from 1995-2003 has returned.
Of course, many of those players have aged, but the newer ones have shown great promise, mostly Real Madrid's Kaka and Sevilla's Luis Fabiano. I hope they win.
Holland: The same as Germany - not much to say but I am surprised at some of their games. They can really win it with their powerful strike force.
Italy and France: Both teams are hoping that they will lift it again, but my guess is they will be knocked out in the quarter or semi-finals.
Italy currently are showing fine form but drawing twice with Ireland and losing some important games isn't impressive. Yet they have the potential.
France are either celeberating or shameful of how they qualified. Thierry Henry's controversial handball was the only reason they got past the Republic of Ireland. The 2006 runners-up will need to do better.
Spain: A few months back, I was going for them but losing to the USA left me undecided. But they are showing that they are recovering with dominating victories and especially their powerful midfielders.
Cesc Fabregas, the young Gunner, has shown his passing and goalscoring ability alongside Xavi and Xabi Alonso.
And my final team - USA: I hated it when they reached the final of the Confed Cup, but I think they deserved it. They are currently on a strong run, and scoring twice against Brazil and Spain in the tournament was very impressive. I'm sure they might reach the semis or even the final next year.

I wonder why some pundits include englands name among the favourites to win the world cup. This is not the best english team ever. They have shown that they cannot compete with the big teams. They have some few world class players but most of their players are average players.
