Rangers' financial problems have been well documented of late.

Club debts have risen to £31m from £21m last year, while turnover has fallen from £64m to around £40m.

Add to this the failure to progress from their Champions League group (not even to the Europa League) and the fact that Sir David Murray is actively trying to sell the club - and Rangers have big problems.

Things are so bad at the club that Walter Smith has even offered to continue this season as manager without any wages.

So with the January transfer window looming, Rangers may look to cash in on their most valuable assests in a bid to ease their financial troubles. The following are the five players I believe the club are most likely to be tempted to sell:

1. Danny Wilson: The 17-year-old centre-back is arguably the Glasgow side's most saleable player. Even at his tender age, and with only a handful of first-team appearances under his belt, his potential to become a quality defender looks like tempting a host of Premier League clubs - with Spurs being touted at the head of the queue. Transfer value? I'd stick my neck out and say maybe £4m - but perhaps I'm not saying enough!

2. Madjid Bougherra:  The ex-Charlton centre-back's career has been resurrected at Ibrox after seasons of languishing in the English leagues. His impressive form both domestically and in Europe has attracted a few clubs, with Bordeaux reportedly interested last August. However, Bougherra has returned late from international duty with Algeria three times now, much to the anger of Smith, who may look to move the player on. His impressive form would command a decent transfer fee, maybe £5.5m or so. Again, Spurs are rumoured to be interested.

3. Kris Boyd: Birmingham almost signed the striker in last January's transfer window, but Boyd's wages proved a stumbling block. However, with only six months now left on his contract, Rangers may have to consider offers in the coming window, seeing as he would leave for nothing in summer. Boyd is unlikely to be cheap after scoring 110 goals in his four years at the club, including 31 last season. £3m looks like a good shout.

4. Allan McGregor: In a poor Champions League campaign, the Scotland keeper has probably been Rangers' best player. But for his fine form, it could have been 9-0 at home against Stuttgart. Although McGregor hasn't voiced his desire to leave, Rangers may look to sell him because of his impressive form and their financial worries. Again, Spurs have been linked with the player, whose transfer fee may be about £4m.

5. Steven Davis: Although nobody has recently been linked with the Ulsterman, he provides a safe bet for a club looking for a good midfielder. Time and time again, Davis has shone for the Govan outfit and an English Premier League side might be tempted to put in a sneaky bid, considering Rangers' money concerns. £3m might be enough to lure the player away from Ibrox.
