Chelsea have moved quickly to deny reports in the morning press that striker Didier Drogba will not be going anywhere.

After an agent connected to the Ivorian suggested that his client might be joining Manchester City this summer, a representative of the Eastlands club denied any interest in the player by saying: “There has been absolutely no contact [with Drogba].”

A Chelsea spokesman when asked about Drogba’s future has now confirmed the London club’s position.

“It is all irrelevant, Didier Drogba is not for sale.”

The terse statement shows just how unwilling Chelsea are to entertain this notion which is unsurprising after their target man scored 29 goals for them on the way to winning the 2009/10 Premier League.

But this is not the first ‘Drogba to City’ rumour that has popped up this summer and where there’s smoke there’s usually a journalist or an agent rubbing two pieces of wood together.

I’m sure all City and Chelsea fans will watch the development of this story with interest. As will Fernando Torres…
