Santos have revealed that they have rejected a bid for their much-vaunted striker Neymar from Premier League champions Chelsea.

The bid for the 18-year-old Brazilian forward is believed to be in the region of €20m which would be a significant outlay for a teenager with no European experience.

Neymar has been hot in front of goal in 2010 with 27 goals so far in yet Dunga decided against taking him to South Africa for their ultimately failed World Cup adventure.

Santos has a reputation for developing star players with Pele making the club famous around the world in the 1960s and 1970s while more recently Robinho was a product of their youth system.

In an official statement, the club said: “Santos FC declare they have received an official proposal from Chelsea FC of England for the economic rights of forward Neymar. Santos FC have no interest in opening negotiations”.

Even if Chelsea were successful they might find it hard to secure a work permit for the non-EU player with Neymar having only represented Brazil at Under-17 level.

It does though make a mockery of Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti’s claim that he was not interested in adding to his collection of strikers though perhaps if a special talent is available at an attractive price – such as Neymar – then he might just change his mind.
