New Liverpool signing Milan Jovanovic has revealed that he spurned the opportunity to go to Real Madrid prior to his arrival at Anfield.

The Serbia international was offered a contract but opted to stay at his former club Standard Liege as he did not want to spend his time sitting on the bench.
"Real offered me just a one-year deal with an option for two years,” said Jovanovic. “I said four, they said no and so I turned them down. Maybe they are the biggest club in the world, but I always knew that other big clubs would come.”
Liverpool certainly fit the ‘big club’ bill even if they have fallen on hard times in the last 12 months and Jovanovic will hope that he commands a regular first team place in his debut season in the Premier League
“I will never go somewhere where I only play a small part,” he added. “Why? It is better to be happy somewhere. Now I only want to look forward and play for Liverpool.”
