Good article, but I'm not sure you're right in suggesting Liverpool have poorer spending power than Arsenal etc. According to <a href="http://www.purelymancity.com/index.php/finances/ citys-transfer-spending-v-other-premiership-clubs-200 3-to-present/">this ManCity fan</a>, Liverpool's net transfer spending since 2003 has been higher than anyone's outside west London. 1: Chelski, £268m (more than everyone else put together); 2: Liverpool, £60m; 3: Spuds, £36m; 4: ManU, £36m; 5: Newcastle, £36m; 6: Villa, £22m; 7: Boro, £20m; 8, Arsenal, £13m; 9: Everton, £13m; 10: Charlton, £12m. But he might be wrong...

I think you need to reconsider this point. You couldn't be further from the truth. The tabloids in this country link hundreds of players to Manchester United a season so ultimately they will guess one or two players ferguson purchases. Had you heard of Evra or Vidic before they signed? Was there rumours in the papers about Andy Cole, Peter Schmeichel or Andrei Kanchelskis?
