The Liverpool-Arsenal FA Cup game could be very good for all the right reasons. Two of the four top names in English football meeting in the oldest cup competition in the world. But what makes this football occasion a little bit special is the fact that the two teams and their supporters have very little animosity towards each other.

First of all, I think we have finally got over that Michael Thomas goal. We even signed the man!

Arsenal are a hard team to hate (I am prone to the odd prawn sandwich) and have a lot of similarities to Liverpool. Both managers are under-funded compared to Manchester United and Chelsea and OK, we still can’t fund a Theo Walcott-type £5million transfer rising to £12.5 million on a kid. But Rafa Benitez and Arsene Wenger are trying to compete with the crazy money of Chelski by scouring the globe for the best young talent to have a real chance of building for the future.

Whereas Alex Ferguson has based his buys on whatever the tabloids say, and the Special One took whatever his Russian master bought him, Wenger has been by far the best in the English game for spotting and nurturing talent. However, Rafa`s young-gun buys should be starting to break into the first team next year and then we can really compare the two managers on their talent-spotting.

I hope its a good game because the fans deserve it. For too long we have been preoccupied with Chelski’s money and manure arrogance and ignorance. It would be nice to finally enjoy a game between two great teams with two non-arrogant, non-ignorant managers. For once let’s just sit back and enjoy the sight of two great teams playing football.
