After a series of bad results including a 0-0 draw against Macedonia, a 2-0 defeat by Croatia and last week's 1-0 loss to Spain at Old Trafford, the question has to be asked - with such a talented squad, why aren’t Steve McClaren's England side getting the right results?

In my opinion, I think there are several problems. Firstly, the manager is not doing his job, his role being to initially get England the results they need to be successful and to keep the thousands of fans happy. But he also needs to motivate his players to win games. This is where the second problem comes into play. Are the players passionate and motivated enough to get results for England? I don't think so!

Your John Terrys, Steven Gerrards and Frank Lampards are becoming so confident of their place in the England side that they are not working hard enough to earn the right to be in the team. Having said that, players who are not regular starters for England, such as Shaun Wright-Phillips, Jonathan Woodgate and Kieron Dyer, showed the same sort of effort and dedication against Spain that the previously-mentioned superstars put in. Which is frankly shameful.

This could be down to McClaren not motivating the players enough, but the players must nevertheless take some responsibility for their performance.

I could blabber on for ever criticising England's boring performances, the lack of quality in their game and the poor tactics of using route-one style football and hoofing the ball long to Peter Crouch. But I think all these problems come down to poor management.

I am starting to think Sven-Goran Eriksson did well considering the team's performance under McClaren.
