On Tuesday evening, Arsenal travel to PSV Eindhoven for more Champions League fun and frolics. The Dutch club have had something of a lean time lately in the Eredivisie though they are still leading the pack, five points ahead of second-placed Ajax Amsterdam.

On Saturday PSV managed to beat the mighty Heracles Almeldo (catchy title) 2-0 - their first clean sheet in seven matches and first win in five. These are the kind of statistics which would have Arsenal supporters predicting the end of the world and, more importantly, the departure of Arsene Wenger along with all the best players and a takeover by a Texas oil baron who thinks that he is buying David Beckham.

PSV have worries about the condition of defender Manuel de Costa and midfielder Ibrahim Afellay, which is good news for the Gunners. However, Sun Xiang is available and gagging for it. Reuters quote the in-form Sun as saying that he would be the first Chinese player to play in the UEFA Champions League and stressed what an honour this would be for Shanghai and for Shenhua, his previous club. You can’t get much more motivation than that.

PSV manager Ronald Koeman is no fool and will know from the Blackburn Rovers match on Saturday that Arsenal can be frustrated. However, for the Dutch side a draw at home is no use; they need to win and will therefore need to attack. Hopefully this will leave their recently leaky defence open to Arsenal's neat, precise attacking play.

Arsenal have played PSV four times and have never lost, though this statistic does not reflect the true closeness of the games. The last time the sides met was in Eindhoven in November 2004 when both Patrick Vieira and Lauren were sent off in a 1-1 draw. On Tuesday, Arsenal will probably play their normal Champions League formation of 4-5-1 with the incomparable Thierry Henry on his own up front (at least they won’t need Gilberto or Batista to boot the penalties over the bar). There is, however, still a lot of firepower in midfield to back him up.

The selection of the defence might prove a welcome headache for Le Boss as there is something of a surfeit of talent available at the moment. William Gallas is looking good and has a wealth of European experience; however, whether he is truly match fit is questionable. Gael Clichy adds an extra dimension to Arsenal's play with his speed and attacking nous. Kolo Toure picks himself and Johan Djourou and Phillip Senderos are looking pretty good in central defence.

Arsenal have a great creative and rock-steady midfield with Cesc Fabregas and Gilberto at the heart of things. Hopefully the excellent Aleksandr Hleb, if he gets over his cold, will play and also the rejuvenated Freddie Ljungberg. Give Freddie a few goals and spray-paint his hair red and you would have a job telling him from the Freddie of three or four years ago. Well, almost.

Of late, Arsenal seem to have found the knack of winning ugly when the occasion demands, which is encouraging. It adds another string to the Gunners' bow, so to speak. I know that we only managed a dismal draw against Blackburn on Saturday but Rovers desperately wanted to avoid another multi-goal thrashing and most of the Arsenal team had half an eye on the vastly more important and glamorous Champions League match. So I do not think the Blackburn game gave much of an indication of form.

So, looking into my rose-tinted crystal ball and for no logical reason ignoring the Blackburn match, I predict that Arsenal will win in Eindhoven 2-1 and will triumph by 2-0 back in London. I know the Gunners have played bucketloads of games and may be a little tired but with the young, eager players that they have blooded this year, I feel that the squad (the ones who can really do the business, not the up-and-comers) has greater depth than it used to have. At least I hope so.
