We all know which team Smithy went to play for and, yes, I can't stand that team that play in red as much as the next man. But how many of us wouldn't have done exactly the same thing if we'd been in the same boat as him? It's well known how short a career players have, so who in his right mind would turn down the chance of winning medals, trophies and playing for his country?
So who thinks that our former hero would have won anything playing in the Championship? Admittedly, he could have stayed for just one season, but how many of us know the real reason he left? Was he pushed out of the door for a financial gain? We have to agree; we sure as hell needed the money. At least he forfeited a large amount of money that was due to him as part of his transfer. How many players would do that, if they didn't love the club?
So would all the fans who say we don't want him back rather be playing Division One football next season? Or would they cheer him if he does choose to return and starts banging in the goals that maybe, just maybe, stop us being another Nottingham Forest?
I, for one, would love to see Smithy wearing the white of Leeds United again, because red just doesn't suit him. And because he is a very good player - and we need all the help we can get at the moment.

I would love to have him back, what a boost it would be. Just having him here would be fantastic, but I don't think it will happen. MOT

I will never forget Smiths beaming smile when he was sat next to Ferguson at the press conference to announce his move the them. It looked like a dream come true and if you remember his gushing praise and how he had always wanted to play for a team like them. He looked like a Red and now he is. He would only ever come back here if we were back up at the top end of the Prem and MUFC didn't want him.

i for one would welcome Smithy back with open arms he was pushed out for financial reasons and we made money to keep this club afloat he forfitted his cut (rumoured to be a million) did other ex Leeds players do that or worry about the clubs plight (viduka,Kewell,Woodgate,Bowyer ect) if he wants to play for us to keep us up and we can get him bring him on. I don't like Man u or Fergie but I have never understood or stood when we are playing anyone else we have the chant of "if you hate Man U stand up" seems Chelsea are getting the same Chant these days why? Souldn't we be concentrating on the opposition we are actually playing that day ..... Chelsea and Man U are in the long distant past and well in the future unless we get them in a cup game come home for a few games Smithy

Smithy was my favourite player as he showed the most passion for the club. Look I don't care what he's done if he can keep us up then bring him back I mean we're not doing it without him. Also I believe one of the reasons he went to Scum was that they offered the most in way of a transfer fee so that he could get more for Leeds.

Yes I would welcome him back if he is ready to give his all to save the club. The club needed to sell him for financial reason, so yes he is welcom back if he is ready to work for the Whites cause

I have long harboured hopes that he'd come back home but the sad truth is I don't think we'd have a hope in hell of luring him back. We are a club with deep rooted problems both on and off the pitch. He gave everything to the cause when we got relegated and I totally agree red doesn't suit him and his tireless workaholic attitude is being wasted, but I've met the guy and know how much he wants to succeed. Saving his beloved club or winning the Premiership? Hmmmm A tough one. I have never stopped liking the guy as a man and as a footballer most sides would chomp at the bit to have him for a few games never mind a few months. If we have the slightest sniff of a chance, go for it.....but I would honestly not hold it against him if he said no.
I confess written and emailed the club on the matter and I have contacted Smudger re the matter and there is hope one day, but I just worry with a good cameo performance against Bolton today and Man u short of strikers..that his hand will be tied anyway
