VILNIUS (Reuters) - Scotland held off a late barrage to secure a 2-1 Euro 2008 qualifying victory over Lithuania on Wednesday and move top of Group B, and Walter Smith feels his players deserves more respect as a result.

"I'm hoping that we are beginning to be respected for what we are doing. This win was achieved thanks to a lot of hard work."

Second-half goals by Christian Dailly and Kenny Miller put Scotland in charge before an 85th minute reply by Darias Miceika set up a frantic finale.

Dailly headed Scotland in front 40 seconds into the second half from a corner from Gary Naysmith and Miller doubled their lead after 62 minutes, blasting a shot past goalkeeper Zydrunas Karcemarskas.

Lithuania had failed to take several good opportunities but they eventually found the net when substitute Miceika beat Scotland keeper Craig Gordan with an acrobatic bicycle kick.

Scotland opened their campaign on Saturday with a 6-0 thrashing of the Faroe Islands while Lithuania earned a surprise draw with world champions Italy.
