oh come on.. playing in european games is just like playing in fa cup.. liverpool just doesnt have the consistency to last a whole season to win the premiership, at least not for the next couple of years.. :)

Liverpool have the best history in the english game, the best fans and the best manager. chelsea have lost their cutting edge since the blank cheque was withdrawn, manchester utd have a team dominated by old men, Liverpool and Arsenal are the only ones building for the future. LFC to win the league in the next 2 seasons and por su puesto, the Champions League for the 6th time this year

You have forty million big deal. You are going to need half of that to secure the long term services of macarano who is on loan to you only. Thats half gone on a player you already have. Word is one of your strikers will be sold to fund it also. And lets face it if all you have is twenty million its not enough. You know liverpool fans do this everyyear beware liverpool look what it gets you out of the cups battleing for third and praying you land the european so your season wont be a flop. Guys you probably need closer eighty million and a ground that can back up the wage bill to win the league

Hmmm, really, sure i heard this same drival in the summer about this being the year that Liverpool challange again, deluded nonsense....

THE CHELSEA FAN IS RIGHT... the worrying thing isabout that, is chelseahad a bad season this season and man u are going to win it.. and that the way i see it, chelsea slip up and man u pick up the pieces.. it would take both man u and chelsea to have a major cock up all seaon you are 17 points behind chelsea and they are having a bad season.. get real.. and that craig is right 20 mil for macharano 35 mil for eto and 15 mil for a player like nani in the wings and you have a chance.dont sell any players win something and go bankrupt due to the fact its goings to be in the next decade before you have the stand to pay the bills.... itsgoing to take five years unfortunatly

Liverpool fans really do need to wake up,no title for last 17 years and no title next year..To see their fans jumping up and down like this, after scoring 3 goals against a second rate uefa cup side really is laughable..Every year we hear the same tripe from the liverpool fans, yet they always receive the same answers come the end of september...Liverpool are country miles behind united and chelsea, yes they can raise their game on occasions, but there is a significant difference between a 1 of cup game compared to a 38 game season...They are closer to the relegation zone than the summit, yet next year is gonna be their season, thats scouse logic for you!

He has already been bought for 10 million GBP. Get your facts straight mate.
by hasrin on April 06, 2007
of course they will

It was the media who came up with this 40 million transfer fund, when Gillett was asked about it he said we dont know what our summer transfer funds will be, and if we did it would not be discussed publicly for obvious reasons. And its true that Liverpool have had a lot of false dawns in previous years but we have not had a manager of Rafa`s calibre with a big warchest of money to build a squad of world class players.

ok fact.. companies house do you know what that is... brainless?? it is the govening body to which all limited companies, plc etc etc in this country have to put their financial statments in to... fact i am a chartered accountant. fact i can read financial statments. and read the financiial statments which you are entitled to from companies house. and he was taken on an 18 month loan agreement. fact it was done so for three reasons. fact number one.. liverpool could not afford it. number two as per international accounting standards he would have been classed a non fixed asset and would have had to been taken in to consideration when the club was bought out. fact the extra lay would have affected the company profits and therefore the goodwill payment made by the americans.he was taken on an 18 month loan for 1.5 million fact.. fact i knowe what i am talking about.. fact you are brainless go on back your idiotic statement up
by craig on April 06, 2007
hopefully got your attention with that one nate.. tom to be fair you have a point it is just the media that have come up with forty million.... but again they still need to buy macherano
Craig very comprehensive answer to nate, on the Mascherano deal nobody really knows the facts, first story it was a 1.5 year permanent deal then it was reported that as you say it was a 1.5 year loan deal but then Liverpool went to Media Sports Investment and bought the deal outright for 10 mill. Nobody really knows what the deal is or even when he becomes a free agent from his MSI contract. One thing is for sure he has impressed so much that Liverpool will be making the deal permanent one way or the other.

i agree with the above article. Liverpool are aon the verge of lifting the "holy grail". The increase in money wil obviously be a big help, however, Rafa has managed to build, for the most part, a very strong squad. not alot of new players wil be needed inorder to finaly push for the title. In my opinion, he has brough in atleast one worldclass player each transfer window, for example, Alonso, Kuyt, Mascherano etc. with the exception of 1 or 2 new signings, i think liverpool have a great squad in order to challenge the top 2 sides next season.
by craig on April 09, 2007
hi tom you are quite right i cannot definatly say that it is absolute, but what i can say being a "sad" accountant and a mad man u supporter, given the fact it was being bought out i could not help my self in having a sneaky look at the accounts at liverpool and what i can tel you is on the cash flow statments ( a statement of accounts which basically track money in and out of a company) there was a 1.5 million change as he arrived... i know it means nothing concreate but it does suggest.... anyway i still think the headlines coming soon will see me correct and if he wins a champions league his price will rise and a full season with them next year well it will increase his price... so well the purse strings are off get him now
by Tom Harness on April 09, 2007
If the books show only 1.5 mill cash out then your probably right the deal still is at the loan stage, and your right Liverpool should sort it out sooner rather than later before the price goes up, if they have not included a option to buy at a set price before the price goes up in the contract. He was never going to be cheap even with his stagnation at West Ham, he is simply too good of a player, 22 caps at the age of 22 for Argentina gives an indication of how good he can become and how expensive. Never seen a deal shrouded in so much mystery.
I suppose i should add there is a possiblity they could of borrowed the money, but that would show on the balance sheet... we will have to see.. even so like i said before.. if this is the case weather the americans want to spend 40 mil 60 mil or nothing!!! which could also be the case lets face it as you said the 40 mil is the press figure not liverpools. he will put in a hefty chunk in any transfer kitty and back to my original point they will need to spend at leat 60 mil to get where they need to... like c ronaldo at man u they are going to need to get the cheque book out for gerrard, alonso and carriger theyt may find an extra 150k going out the door on wages and 20 mil spent just to keep the existing squad in place!!!! without a 60 thousand stadium for 4 years and 300 million debts like i said before it will be three or four years before they are a true force for the premiership after all consitany in the premiership requires 38 games

First let me admit, Liverpool has been a cup team till maybe last year. This year we had more depth, what we lacked was cohesion which comes with time. Rafa is building a team capable of competing. Many said we lack the consistency to challenge the PL, but Its consistency of the squad and not the team or tactics which we lacked. From this year we have managed to reduce it to a very large extend. Next year if there is not much transfer activities and only just a couple of additions, then there is no question what points we will gain. Chelsea will still compete but I am not so sure about Man U. Maybe they will be lucky with Injuries and the last wind of their main players still will get them through... But if that doesnt happen and no major changes are there in Man U, I can see them even finish outside top 3. I am not trying to pick up a fight here, but the likes of giggs, scholes, neville are WORLD CLASS but also on their last wind. When that wind breaks down Ronaldo will have to carry them like Gerrard carrie
When that wind breaks down, Ronaldo will have to carry the team like gerrard used to during those last year of houllier. a "one man" team. Beware of that!

no disrespect i am sure with added money you can prove a force in the next several years but you are 18 points adrift, that is hardly firm evidence of a title challenge, i am not looking for an arguement but its true.. and as for man u i guess you have forgot about wayne rooney, park ji sung, ben foster, rossi, carrick rio ferdinand, vidic, patric evra lois saha the list goes on, if we can pick up the likes of nani, hargreaves and a world class striker we will be set for another decade well done SAF. one thing i will say though scholes giggs and neville (ole gunna to) have a responcibility to show our young blood the way to win a premiership and the cups much like what cantona, hughes and irwin did for them. if the likes of rooney gets that in their blood their will be no stoppingb them
by RKB on April 16, 2007
liverpool can take it to the top. Rafa has done great with the little money he has. With roughly 50 mil, we can go to the top for shure. as for chelsea,, they are simply the worst team to grace the sport. all they hav are world class players. nothing more
by tom on August 03, 2007
If you really think livepool r gunna get the title then your backwards everyone knows manus gt it won so what you sighned fernado torres and in my personal view hes not 1 for the premiership hes easily second class look at nani on his debeut scored a breathe taking goal thats a signing for YOU and chelsea for example you lost to rangers lol rough season ahead of you UNLUCKY
