As many supporters struggle with the concept of constructive criticism, maybe they should look away now. To many, November 2005 won’t carry much significance but for the supporters who look deeper into Tottenham affairs will know that is the time when Damien Comolli was appointed Sporting Director and vice-chairman David Buchler decided he could no longer commit to the job due to other business interests.
I don’t quite understand how being a vice-chairman could take up so much of his time unless he was completely running the club from top to bottom. Perhaps Buchler finally got tired of been given little credit for the success of the company while Daniel Levy and co took the plaudits, and perhaps the profits?
But as Buchler stepped out, Levy stepped in as chairman - a role he didn’t feel he could fulfil when ENIC took over in 2001. The switch was an apparent non-issue with most fans, but became one which had long-term ramifications - some of which we are feeling already.
A trip down memory lane finds us in December 2005 with the club fourth in the Premiership with some of the best young players in domestic football. If we were going to push on in the final half of the season then sound investment in the January transfer window was going to be important - especially with Mido going off to the African Nations Cup. It was the first test for Levy and Comolli to earn their money.

More doom and gloom - Jol not up to it, the Board are inept and have not backed him. Ho Hum. So we have a right to Champs League eh? By my count 25 years on poor performances and now some stablity and consistency. So we lost to Chelsea, Arse and Sevilla in the cups - SHOCK! We are improving we have built on last season we have the best young crop of British youngsters in the Prem, we have proved that last season was not a flash in the pan.........SHort memories and unreasonable high expectations. OK you win - Christian Gross back and with him Dozzell, Colin Lee, Tramazzani, Rasiak and the bunch of clueless players we have had for a quarter of a century. How many of our last decent cup wining side would get in the team now? Two? Three? We have never had it so good (at least since the 60's). Get real.

What?????...Bolton & Everton were out of cups much ealier and did not compete in Europe....and only a few points above spurs in the league. Spurs will play 59 games this season, 19 more than last season.

I think Spurs should employ the like of Roeder, Souness etc.... that is an improvement.

.....spurs lost the chance to be among the top four, the day they decided tto sell carrick..... we lost the very soul we managed to sow over the past year.... we never recover from that..... we never have a ready replacement for that.... we start going backward from there....... jol never did want to sell carrick.... you were right, spurs top brass is to be blame for the state we are in......

You're talking shit mate. For a start no real fan is criticising anyone at spurs. We were knocked out of the UEFA cup by a side that were better than us, simple as.

"The net result? Sean Davis out, Pedro Mendes out, Noe Pamarot out, Gregorsz Rasiak out, Michael Brown out, Wayne Routledge out on loan and in came Danny Murphy and Hossam Ghaly" The manager is supposed to be responsible for deciding who he wants in and who he wants out. If, as the implication is, these deals were made over Jol's head, it would have leaked out to the press by now.

Totally rediculous argument - the club is building. We had to sell to bring in, not purely financially but for firt team opportunity reasons. Carrcik made it clear he wanted out and as a result we replaced him with Zokora and Berbatov was a target for well over a year. I dont expect many first team playesr to leave this summer but you can expect Murphy, Routlege, Mido, Gardner, Ziegler and perhapd Lee to depart. Hopefully with one of Taylor or Bridge coming in and Nene !

Don’t blame the lack of investment from the current spurs board on playing staff, the investment must be aimed towards the match officials. An 11 man Sevilla were not a better team than us but we faced an uphill battle playing against 14 men teams on both occasions. I’m giving up on football and following WWF now its much more believable.

For crying out loud -if your own hobby decideing which witch hunt bandwagon to try to get rolling don't write on a FANS site. Look up the words fan and supporter then take a good look at yourself. It's self promoting drivel.

How many of you can say that the current squad is worst than last year, and the season before that. And hwo many of you have a gut to say that our performances is worst than the previous 5 seasons! This year we will play 59 games (40 games last year). On the way, we just set the British club record for 8 consecutive wins in Europe.

How the hell can you take issue with Levy and any of the board. In the space of three seasons they have transformed the club from the bottom up, this despite Arneson and Santini flying the nest.Fondations are what any empire should be built upon, solid ones at that, not the tissue paper thin one, the knee jerk type that short sighted people like you want. I wouldnt want to be your missus as the moment would be over as soon as the first kiss had taken place!

This 'writer' has absolutely no idea about football or Spurs. We have arguably the best board and setup in the league. Our performances and quality of football are significantly better than last year, as are our overall results. Go back to football 101, Mr.C. Your opinion is worse than worthless.

You say we have the financial clout but dont perform any better than everton/bolton and then you say we should splash the cash in the summer???? you are a walking contradiction mate. the answer is certainly not spending more money
by dan on April 15, 2007
who ever is making these headlines up r defianetly not spurs fans and there a bunch of wankers and dont know wat the fuck your talking about.

We have some of the finest young british talent around, and the team is building for the future. Aided by a decent senior management set up, not afraid to invest. We played loads more games than last season have reached the latter stages of all cups and only bowed out to higher ranked opposition.not to mention we are well in the mix for next years UEFA cup comp. So heres to next season with Jol still in charge, more of the finest young british talent around and many future years of success. We are heading in the right direction. 'Yidos'

Nonsense. Are you a member of David Buchler's family? On what evidence can you base your theory that Buchler's departure heralded a downturn in the club's success? Arnesen brought in some dubious players anyway.
by brespur on April 15, 2007
Agree with almost all you say, but feel you have let Jol off lightly. This is the guy who told us "Lee Y P is the best left back in Holland",and "Zokora is the new Vieira",both sadly wide of the mark. There is no balance on the left side, after two years of looking, when players at "lesser clubs",such as Barry,Shorrey,Baines,& Matt Taylor look just the ticket. Clawing defeat from the jaws of victory is becoming a habit we could do without, and tactically he is left wanting time and again. Being a Spurs fan should carry a health warning, and the day we have a team worthy of our magnificent support still seems a long, long way off.

"The fantastic signings of Dimitar Berbatov and Pascal Chimbonda aside," Yeah, its hard to make your argument, so you have to put things aside to really make them even remotely valid.
