Rumours have been abounding this week about a possible reshuffle in the Spurs back-room. Many suggestions for a new boss have been made, including Jose Mourinho, Jurgen Klinsmann and Mark Hughes. Spurs fans must be wondering what's next.
After years of constant speculation about the players who are coming into the club, it seems that the rumour-mongerers out there are now left with very little to talk about, now that Spurs have implemented a safe, successful and affordable transfer budget. It also seems that players are very content to stay at Spurs; good examples over the last few weeks are both Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov committing their foreseeable future to the club. The gossip spreaders have decided that it is the management's turn to face a bit of heat.
I shall start with the "likely" candidates:
I do not mean to infer, however, that Martin Jol is at risk of leaving the club. I believe that the man would have to be thrown out of the ground if he were removed from his position - not an easy feat by any means! His commitment to the club is second to none for Spurs managers that I have seen. He has also proved himself very quickly in the continental set-up that the Lane employs, a set-up that took a long time to come to fruition because of the hunt for the right man. After a year of searching, Santini and Jol were appointed. It does not seem to me that the board are likely to dispense with his services after such excellent runs in three competitions, the club's hopes of silverware only being dashed after playing some of the biggest teams left in the competitions.
The final reason that MJ is staying is the club itself. As any die-hard Tottenham fan knows, our club is run on one of the soundest financial and business bases in football. The majority shareholder, Joe Lewis, through Enic, has consistently pushed money into the club. Daniel Levy, as club chairman and managing director of Enic, has shown extremely prudent business acumen in all his dealings with the club - firing Jol would simply not make sense.
The man has the support of the legions of Spurs fans as well as the players, and the facts are undeniable. Spurs are showing a great deal of improvement on and off the pitch, whilst still developing some of the best youth talents, both at a national and international level.
I believe that the current crop of Hotspurs are in it for the ride, and I hope, as I know many, many others hope, that this management team and current crop of players can stick it out for the long run.

The man is tactically inept and with the squad he has at his disposal should have done better than lose to the only 3 decent sides they faced in the cups. With the squad Spurs' have a top manager would have Spurs in the top 3.

Jol is in danger of losing his because of a consistant show of wierd choices or tactical moves. At the end of the day he keeps playing Jenas, and he hasnt made a strong enough effort to sign a decent left winger, or a half decent left back. He also keeps playing robbo in goal despit that fact that he is playing like a school kid this ENTIRE season. Robbo's ability to actually watch the ball and judge the flight from a shot outside the box is so terrible, i would rather have a 4foot midget in goal for us at the moment

This conversation is stupid. We've got a great manager, roll on next season

I have the highest regards for BMJ and to what he has done for Spurs. I only wish for him to discard, hopefully, by this summer, the load of rubbish stinking up WHL,manely Jenas, Tainio, Murphy, Ghaly, Gardner, Stalteri and the irascible Mido. There are more than enough and more talented Spurs players able to fill their shoes. Hud, Taarabt, Zeigler, Devitte. BTW, is Halfredsson still a Lilywhite? This of course dos not include the new summer buys that the 10 million quid BMJ will purchase.

I like maartin although his tatics are sometimes questionable, but instead of sacking him y doesnt he step down and become head coach again, while we bring in another manager, its clear jol is good with the team, so maybe he needs some little direction

MJ TO STAY.STAY,STAY. ANY ONE WHO SAYS OTHERWISE SHOULD STAND IN FRONT OF THE BIG MAN . TOTTENHAM ARE ON THE UP. DONT MESS WITH IT. RESPECT TO ALL THE FANS AT THE SERVILLE MATCH. SECOND HALF WAS SIMPLE THE BEST SUPPORT FOR YEARS AND YEARS.PS WITH THE NEW MONEY IN THE PREMIERSHIP THINGS OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS WILL EVEN OUT A BIT MORE, AND THAT WILL GIVE THE MIGHTY SPURS A BETTER CHANCE TO COMPETE AGIANST THE TEAMS WITH BIGGER GROUNDS.
Martin Jol has done a job stabilising Spurs but he is unable to take them to the next level. Simple. He plays the wrong tactics and makes strange decisions. Too weak in playing players that are not good enough or off form - i.e. Robinson, Malbranque, Ghaly...

The bloke is a twat he aint got a clue on tatics he's a bottle job. he has thrown away every chance this season of winning something, league cup, chelsea 3 1 halftime, and why the hell he sit there chewing his gum waiting till 64 mins to make a change against seville he aint got a clue, if that had been chelsea mourinho would have made changes on the ten mins mark thats bottle thats why he's a top manager unlike the bottle job we got.

Any team which lets in 60 goals a season isn't a good team. P.S. Just delete the no content insulting posts from the likes of George

Fans may say inept tactics, but they are the ones who will always keep the club down. Dont you feel some stability would be good for the club in the long run? Only 3 years ago we had no manager, a board who didn't really look like they knew what to do, and only one or two players capable. So you moaners expect to go from that to the top 3 in 3 seasons with the cash we've spent? The squad isn't perfect and Jol I just slightly think probably deserves to be allowed to finish building his team and take them further. It's far too soon he cant take us on further, he's only in his second full season for god's sake. As I've said his record is better than almost every other manager we've had, just consider that! And people say he's had his chance, I guess they must love Spurs being unstable and in constant change, altghough for me it's not been a better time to support Spurs for years and we have a manager who knows what it takes to be Spurs, just let him do his job and rewards will come.

coudnt agree more. We are getting better and better. People are too premature in their judgements. MJ is the best manager for decades. CH is Tottenham through and through. DC is doing well. and DL has proven himself over and over. The moaners need to grow up and learn how to support.
9dartdanny, dont you think the players are more responsible for throwing things away. If Jol adds some experience then perhaps the players wont throw it away. It's so easy to take the stance the likes of you do, change the manager after two seasons where we are clearly making progress, but ignorant fans who really just want to support Chelsea and be done with it, will wanty managers sacked one saturday, and then go quiet the next. Grow up the lot of you, you obviously have short memory's or you weren't around during 95-05 when things WERE bad. This regime is promising and could end up seeing us back solidly in the top 5 and hopefully trophies will come, but it doesn't happen immediately. This is real life football not Championship manager. You cant just take a clubs money or players, you have to build and take risks and hope it comes off in the long run especially with how far we had to go. In reality in the time between then and now things are actually lloking good and what we are doing now looks as though
You need to stay as far away from this club as possible you blinkered negative wingeing needy desperate disguised gooner. You know absolutely nothing. The two best league finishes since Gazza and Linekar, cup runs left right and centre, a young squad... oh man... what exactly do you want? You ought to hang your head in shame. Stop damaging the club by posting shyte.
Neil - mentioning Hughton. Do you see the Topspurs article saying it's Hughtons fault not Jol's or something? What is Hughtons fault? What's so bad? Sure we all want to win trophies and be in the Champions League but is that what it will be for Spurs now..Give a manager two seasons to do those, if he fails sack him and give someone else a chance for two seasons? I doubt any manager could guarentee success in that time and all Spurs would be is a joke club who clearly will never achieve anything. The time for that is over, we must just let our talented manager complete his squad and take us on. Next season is massive for him and could be make or break, but that's only down to our fans impatience. It's quite sad really that Spurs could never be what they hop just because some fans drag them backwards each time. Jol averages 60 points a season, there's only a handful of other managers that have ever achieved that!! That is why this argument is so unbelievable really.
Second highest gross spenders to Chelsea and a manager that has no balls. The fact is it's not the players faults because many are young or playing hteir first league in the PL. It is down to the manager to give them clear direction/instruction on the pitch. This is clearly no thappening and not helped by him chewing gum on the sidelines whatever happens on pitch. It's laughable - winning, losing or drawing we know one thing is constant neither Jol or his inept asst will know what to do and therefore will do nothing..oh, but they are very good at making excuses!

Interestingly enough, I was talking with a friend last night about Real Madrid. A big club, supposedly constantly chasing silverware that has changed their manager 7 times in 4 years. This, my friends, is definately not what we want. The stories coming out suggest a board-room in turmoil, players with no commitment and a complete lack of morale. Is that the sort of thing that we want? In-fighting, unhappy players and extraordinarily frustrated fans? I think not. Give the man the time he needs - it's as simple as that.
What 65m spent? Jol's spending isn't that much and the club is operating at a profit. Secondly he isn't responsible for purchasing as we have a continental approach with a director of football. His name is Damien Commoli. Diont get sucked in by the typical media hype regarding money spent, if you are just gonna countt the players in. Many of those same players have gone out again since with us getting the money back, so you know if people are gonna talk crap then there is no hope for the club with fans like us. I despair I really do. Also what on earth has chewing gum have to do with anything?
You know, this is the last I'll say cos I cant sit here fighting for Jol all day, but when you see such a clueless remark as 65m spent you just have to wonder how much attention some fans pay. The club has decided to evolve the squad quickly. A high turnover of players in/out has been the policy for 2-3 years. In that time it actually works out at an entire squad who's average price is under 3m! During this time of major change we have qualified for europe for the 1st time in years and finished higher than ever in the prem. Also we have integrated back into euro football, all the while constantly changing players. Not bad for some bloke you had never heard of. Now player moves should slow down and we can actually begin, CAN YOU SEE THAT YOU MUPPETS!!!!
err- Mr_nice before you become mr_nicebutdim I suggest you pay attention and understand what "gross spenders" means before you shoot your mouth off. That is a fact and the term you are looking for is that Spurs' are not high "net spenders". We have the best squad we've had in 20 years and you are telling me that snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in any major game is an achievement? For all the player moves we still have NO left footed players and a weak midfield.. but I suppose that's the fans' fault right??

From our imvestigation, the articles and some of the comments were written by conspirators from arenal & chelsea who are envy and jealous because Spurs has a realy nice manager...not a moaner like what they have.....and driven by fear that Spurs will overtake them soon. For chelsea, it is more difficult to beat Spurs than most team nowdays. It will be one of their biggest achiement if they can beat spurs...you can see from their reactions after the Spurs games...1-0,,as if they have won CL. For arsenal...their season become shorter and shoter, as compared to the Mighty and inspiring entertaining Spurs...and it is very quiet at their library nowdays....they booed their team as well, due to extreme boredom

Another vote of confidence in a club and manager that continue to achieve nothing. It's a bit like the great Global Warming scam...if you say that Global Warming is not due to carbon esmissions you are obviously a stupid heretic...and it's the same with criticism of Jol. There is an article posted in the Express site aking "What's the point of Tottenham Hotspur" basically saying that after ManU, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool the rest of the Premiership are just playing for mid-table survival, and saying thta this is due to money. Well, in my opinion this is not the whole picture...sure money is important, but it is what you do with it that counts. Look at Chelsea, some good players, a whole load of over-hyped players who would not make a difference to any other team, but a manager who knows how to organize a football team. ManU are somewhat similar...so what's my point, well it's the manager stupid! At the moment we are like the England cricket team, after every defeat Jol says "we must learn the lessons et

I am a lifelong Spurs fan and been a season ticket holder for 10 years. I can remember playing 6 pointers against Bolton to stay clear of relegation as little as 6 or 7 years ago. Our Chairman, Manager and squad are of a different league now to then. The problem with Spurs fans, and this problem will probably never go away - they love to have something to moan about. So much so that even when things are going well, there are still people who find something wrong. Wake up and realise that compared to seasons and managers passed we're a hell of alot better off now than we have been for years. Stop creating a problem all you haters!!

even my gran can managed Chelsea to top 4 with 200 million available to buy player, and ready to offer palyers 130k/week...Chelsea can afford an annual lost almost equal to Spurs turn over...and Spurs is one of the bigger club in UK. One of the cheslsea's striker cost more than the turnover of reading, watford etc. And Chelse have palyers cost more than 20 mill, whow are most of the time, not even make to their reserve bench.
