I sometimes wonder whether John Terry's bravery and his desire and determination to play for club and country will see one of the finest defenders of his generation fail to achieve his full potential.
The Chelsea and England captain played throughout the majority of the 2004/05 season with an injured foot that required an operation the moment the title was sealed at Bolton. Last season he played with back and calf problems, and then, despite adding a terrible gash to his foot courtesy of a Wayne Rooney foul, he went to the World Cup with England.
This season, JT could deny the back and calf injuries no longer and settled for having the inevitable operation. He came back and got a terrible ankle injury, only to play a few days later and be knocked spark out – again diving bravely for the cause.
Terry has probably played something like 170 games in three seasons, many of them whilst carrying an injury. Never the quickest, I think his commitment to his teams has cost him a yard, and he is now less mobile. Anyone who has been watching him closely, as I have over the past five or six seasons, will know that he has also lost the ability to 'spring' when going for headers. His performance against West Ham was just about his worst in a blue shirt, and he is obviously unfit.
Because of his will to win, his desire for Chelsea and England to succeed, JT will play through it all. But while he will give his utmost, he must know better than anyone that he has lost a little something from his overall game. My concern is that if he continues playing without getting the necessary treatment and rest, he will never become the player we all know he is capable of being.
JT is a Chelsea legend and the England captain, and he's got another six or seven years at the top if he takes better care of himself. Knowing the man he is, he won't. And I fear that side of him could shorten his career.

I agree completely. John's form has been very ordinary in the last few weeks and I am sure watching him that he is not fit. He has been turned by a few players lately and definitely can't outjump other players for crosses. Didier is trying to cover him in that situation from deadball set plays but I fear that Liverpool will take advantage of this through Crouch. I pray he gets better soon, though agree a long rest and possible hospitalisation will be necessary.

TI TONY, Looks like youdid not take you own advise and use crayons, quite a good article. but i think you are looking at the wrong person.. i have noticed that out of the top four the person who has the biggest squad is chelsea, i think i have said this before there is not much between the first eleven of man u,chelsea and liverpool (arsenal are falling behind) the difference is that chelseas next eleven are still good enough to win the premiership.. the only team that can swap super stars wit superstars, (in england anyway) jose, should put more trst in the likes of esian, mikel. in the whole , lampard, jt, ballack, chec, play even if they are injured, look at check he hasbeen waring that hat for awhile now, no player should play if it risks ending their career, and i am sure you would agree, lampard plays with a fractured hand, even you admit jt is suffering, look at united, van de sar got a knock so for sheffield united we put our number two on kuchack (i know thats not how you spell it). you could proba
probalby go as far an say it is the board your manager is under so much presure to win or he is out, he cant afford to gamble... i know they haveto play for the big games, but the untouchalbe 7 (4 of which are carrying knocks at the moment) started against man city, watford and charlton. i mean come on if you are going to rest them and play peole like essian an sw phillips and mikel bourlarouge kalou (the list goes on) those are the ones... at the end of the day morinio is the boss, he can always rest them..

its up to him if he wants to play then leave him to do so its his life and he wouldnt be played if he was unfit so leave him alone and let him get on being a great defender

how can anyone argue with the ability of one of the top defenders in the world. chelsea nearly crumbled while terry was out of the team and as soon as he came back the talk of a chelsea failure this season has gone and there is now a likelihood that they could do the quadruple this year!

i dont think tony is questioning his ability he is worried that he will injure him self unless he is rested, ( i still think morinio need to use the depth of his squad more)

For once, Craig has read my comments correctly. I would never question JT's ability. I do fear for him if he continues to play with injuries, and he has fallen a little bit below his normal standards because he is clearly not fit. His ability, courage and determination will never be questioned by me. As for Marc and Steve...what??? How Marc could have read that as an attack on JTs ability, or worse still Steve reading me as a Manure fan!!! Not sure how either of those happened.

Tony in our heated debate i understood exactly what you were talking about, i think we had a difference in opinion what first team means.. lets not get in to that again obviously you have your opinion i have mine.. steve well done you have proved my point, yet again you have crashed another party, with your blind stupidity, i am just glad this time it was a chelski supporters page... (this is about the forth one, tony. it wont be the last also) to be fair to him watched him today to see if i could pick up further what you were saying tony,, do you think it could be to the amount of games he is playing in also, not sure he does seem tired...

tony, typical arrogance i have seen from you of late. i dont care if you are a chelsea fan, to me now you are "manure" let me get this straight i appologise and you have a go still, school yard my friend school yard, you dont deserve to support the bridge especially with that dribble you write, a few of my friend say (who support chelsea) read the same as me and by the time they had finsihed the article they thought you were a red, so its not just me.. and probably most other chelsea fans that have looked at this think so as well poor very poor....

Children children, may i remind you guys you support the same team, (although nothing is giving me greater satisfaction here a chelsea supporter sticking it to tony, lol.) i dont know weather to support you here because in fairness it was a good article but to be fair i am glad that another chelsea fan is implying that you get your facts mixed up ha. to be fair though steve i would like yo know old you are as you write with the brains of a twelve year old his article could not be more clear.. tony i still think its down to fatigue mate just been watching the high lights. its not just terry thats lost a yard. think time is starting to tell on drogba and lampard as well.
