May 1st 2007 - a day that will be remembered fondly by one set of fans and equally reviled by the other, depending on the outcome of tonight's momentous and white-hot European Cup semi-final.
You will excuse me if I do not refer to it as the "Champions League." I will not subscribe to the re-naming of a tournament that ultimately leads to the prize of the European Cup. It is not the Champions League. If that were the case then let only Champions compete.
I digress, the real point of discussion here is of course another Liverpool-Chelsea cup-tie and amazingly a second European Cup semi-final between the two sides in two years. There is little doubting that Chelsea have had the better of things in the bread and butter of the league but come cup time Rafa Benitez most definitely has the edge, with the exception, of course, of that League Cup final and last Wednesday's result.
What we should be doing now, neutrals and fans alike, is looking forward to an entertaining if not nail-biting evening's football. Instead the focus has been on Jose Mourinho and his pathetic and inexcusable tirade against anyone in direct competition with Chelsea for silverware at this critical point of the season.
It was once commented that this was, in fact, superb thinking by the Portugese whinger as he aimed to deflect attention from his players and thus let them play unbridled. I think José was afforded a scarcely deserved compliment. I would not do him the credit of assuming anything he says is pre-empted. He is an ignorant man, a small man whom we can see now cannot work under pressure.
Look to Sir Alex Ferguson for example. Liverpool fans, particularly, will agree that their hatred of United stems more from the fact they are winning and they more often than not beat Liverpool rather than outright hatred. Liverpool themselves were hated due to their past success. It seems everyone hates a winner and loves to see them fall. Despite it all, Ferguson deserves a grudging respect, a man who has surpassed all expectations and looks to have led the most ordinary United side I have seen in years, with the odd exception, to another title. Love him or hate him, you have to admire him.

You say Mourinho is cheese.

Oh dear, just a hunch but I don't suppose you'll even grudgingly concede that he's the best manager in the world right now and likely to be recognised as the best ever by the time he retires? Lol.

The media is partly responsible for turning his head by calling him a breathe of fresh air in the beginning. It was always foul air and will always remain so. Would he want to swap his squad with Liverpool or Arsenal or even ManU? Surely not. Would other managers love to have the quality of resource at his disposal? Surely yes. With the players he has, even George Bush might manage to win a trophy or two. What is "special" about starting with a massive advantage over all opponents in any sport? Special is when you acheive more with less!

Agree with most of what you said but trust me we hated Utd in the 80's when they werent winning anything and were playing in front of a half full Old Trafford (which then could only hold 40,000)

He certainly won't be called the greatest ever manager. At Chelsea he has had almost unlimited money to spend, so it is hard to say the success is down to him. Many managers might have had the same results, particularly as the main opposition Man U & Arsenal have been 'rebuilding' during this time. One could add pool in there but they have been 'rebuilding' for over a decade now!!). So that leaves his Porto success, which was an achievement, but they should really have been knocked out in the quarters - only an wrong decision in ruling a Man Utd goal out for offside stopped Man Utd from beating them. He is certainly the lowest top manager in the game with his nasty digs and paranoia. The sooner he goes the better for English football. Utd Liverpool final would do nicely

Just read that Klinsman has admitted that he has been offered the Chelski job for next year!
dont really want to get in to a slanging match with you, instead of trading a petty insult you should of just agreed, but i am sure that when sir matt was destroying everything in his path IN THE SIXTYS including liverpool he probably thought the same about you guys after all he showed england how to win a european cup , and i still hate liverpool, i just want to see that final more then anything, chelksi will be boring...

Well Mourinho, you blew it. Half a Billion on Players and you get knocked out of the CPL and look lik no EPL Title either. I couldn't be happier. "Jose Mourinho" = is a liar who can't admit when he has been beaten fair and square. Ricardo Caralho = Plain cheat. Didier Drogba = Comical diver who doesn't need theatrics to win (he is the best player in the world) less the stupid diving and cheating. "Frank Lampard" = Plays his nuts off for chelsea but throw on an England shirt and you are rubbish, no heart. Chelsea Players are all cheats, liars and "Caralhos" (thats portuguese) A little message for Mourinho. "Mourinho. Bem feita, perdeste. Nao es nada especial. Agora precisas admitir que es um Caralho. Vai te foder" Man U will beat them in the FA Cup too. Hahahahaa

Ha Ha ,he does it again ! "Only one blue team is playing to win ",he said. C'mmon Jose , your time is up. Since when does Chelsea belong to the BIG Club ? How many European trophies have you won ? As long as you're the coach, you will never win any European trophies ! Learn to RESPECT another team's achievements. Sorry Mate, YOU WILL WALK ALONE !!!
by Kenny on May 02, 2007
What rubbish you are talking! I hate Chelsea as much as anyone else but calling Carvalho a cheat!? Is this after the Rooney thing? Drogba deserves it as does Joe cole, robben.! Lamps good for Chelsea rubbish for England? Lets talk about a certain Gerrard who has NEVER performed for England (except Andorra wooo hooo). Gerrard dives as much as the next guy but even worse. He dives when the ball is nowhere near him like he did in the carling cup this season when our kids TROUNCED all over your park! Get a grip you have'nt won anything yet!
