With six games remaining in Serie B this season, Juventus need at most 12 points to secure the title and return to Serie A in style. While they have dominated the second tier, can they return to the top of Italian football straight away and dethrone Inter?

Juventus bled a lot of players after Calciopoli. Gianluca Zambrotta, Fabio Cannavaro, Emerson, Patrick Vieira and Zlatan Ibrahimovic the most crushing losses. And key stars Gianluigi Buffon and David Trezeguet remain uncertain as to whether they will remain or leave at the end of the season.

At the moment Inter have the better team, but Juventus have agreed to open the books and it is reported that £75million will be made available to coach Didier Deschamps, along with any funds raised from the sale of fringe players.

If Buffon and Trezeguet decide to stay, they will need reinforcements up front. Juventus have netted 69 times in 36 games in Serie B, while Inter have rippled the back of the net 71 times in 34 appearances in Serie A. Currently Juve have Trezeguet, Alessandro Del Piero, Raffaele Palladino and Valeri Bojinov to choose from as strikers. Trezeguet is important and Del Piero is team captain - and these two will be key to Juve's performance in Serie A next year.

Palladino has impressed and will probably be retained. Bojinov will probably make way for a new striker. Juve have been connected with every striker who has scored this season, so narrowing down the short list is difficult. Alberto Gilardino, Luca Toni and Miroslav Klose are probably near the top of the list. Milan may be unwilling to let go of Gilardino unless they can get a good deal on Buffon, Toni is probably not willing to leave Fiorentina for a club not in the Champions League, and Klose is far from a done deal. But if they can re-enforce the forward line with a quality striker they will be a potent threat to any defence.

Defence is also a big issue for Juve. At times the likes of Robert Kovac, Igor Tudor and Jean-Alain Boumsong have been less then impressive. Juve will want to find a new full-back or two along with a pair of centre backs.

In midfield they remain fairly well equipped, though they have a lack of defensive midfielders. After losing Emerson and Vieira they will definitely need a replacement of similar stature if they want to lift the Scudetto again any time soon. A replacement for the ageing Pavel Nedved may also be on the cards.

If Juve allow Buffon and Trezeguet to leave, they would be powerful bargaining chips which could be used in trade deals or they could be massive revenue raisers. Buffon would probably be replaced by Milan's Christian Abbiati or Livorno's Marco Amelia, remembering that Juve have only ever had one non-Italian goalkeeper.

Juve will probably need a season to help the team re-adjust to Serie A and blend in the new recruits. My prediction is a brave battle to make the top four to secure a return to Champions League, coupled with a good cup run.
