I have to say that I am more that a little confused at your objectives in writing this article. You appear to suggest that there are teams with ideas above their station, spurs, as an example, actually make a profit year on year, clearly they are not over-spending and their packed stadium every other week would imply they have the fan bast to support a challenge. Why would Robben leave Chelsea, to play more games. Which clube he would join is another debate. Would he want to take a pay-cut to join spurs? I doubt it. Would Newcastle stump up the cash? Probably! However a Spanish or Italian club is more likely. But don't knock clubs for having less money than Chelsea, after all, you were in the wannabe section not so long ago.

He wouldn't want to leave. But he might be forced out by the manager, if recent rumours have any truth in them.

just to clarify, the issue was regarding whether there are enough players of quality out there that are worth the money, clubs are going to pay for them in the close season.the headline was not mine, I wrote on the lines of Value for Money, the dangers of overspending and blowing this windfall in the first season etc, using Leeds and Spurs as examples as they were comparative in terms of size and support.

Spurs are a million miles away from the road Leeds went down and anyone with one ounce of common sense could see that. Chelsea on the other hand are most definately not. If Abramovich moved out next week Chelsea would go into freefall in less than two seasons and the vultures would hover to pick the bones clean. Far from being a stable force Chelsea currently fly by the seat of their pants whilst the clout of russian finance sustains them. Once its gone and it will eventualy go make no mistake, its last man turn the lights off on your way out mate.

Try reading, before writing!,thats exactly, I said leeds and Spurs WERE, difference being Spurs have steadily built, whereby Leeds just bought, and thats the only way forward for us. The point being that there are many fans of ours who will be baying for the board to buy the likes of Robben at ridiculous salaries and inflated fees, which will cause disharmony and could undermine all the progress made by us!, perhaps sometimes I give the reader too much credit or assume that they are able to read between the lines

There are two different types of footballers, true and dedicated footballers and the mercenaries. A true footballer will enjoy playing regular first team football with a good club, the other is content to join the elite clubs Chelsea, Arsenal Man U and even Real Madrid, where, realistically they would know they would spend most of their time on the bench. The mecenary is quite happy to keep the bench warm and receive an outlandish pay packet, whereas, his counterpart is enjoying his game albeit, not earning near as much. I think Robben is quite happy being paid to kep the bench warm and I don't think he could adapt to working harder. Spurs would be better off following their youth policy in signing players like Lennon, Dawson etc.

Pete, you said "I personally think that there, but for the grace of God, go Spurs and many others who are chasing the dream (if honesty prevailed and rivalry took a back seat for once)." In the context of your article that can only mean one thing...perhaps you did not mean it to sound so but you have in that sentence alone indicated that you believe Spurs could well go down the same route as Leeds. That of course is nonsense.

I apologize firstly, as the piece I wrote has been messed about by the editorial team, and a huge section was missed out. the headline was misleading.I meant that what would be the motive behind Robbens move, from the players perspective. Secondly that Leeds and Spurs were on par, infact were vying for the same players at one stage.Leeds took the see it buy it approach, wereby we have taken; under Levy, a more long term view. What I'm concerned about, and you only have to read this site, is fans forcing the boards hand into going on a mass spending spree, blowing the windlfall and then chasing their tails. Additionaly I dont think that there are the amount of quality players out there, sensibly priced who can make an immediate difference to Spurs. Love the club and think that how were doing it now is the right way, no kneejerking required. hope this clarifies, regards Pete
