Ever since last summer, Spurs have been lining up a move for Charlton all-star Darren Bent, despite the south London club's poor run of luck in the Premiership. Rumours suggest that Bent has recently been weighing up a move to White Hart Lane this summer, and is believed that a £10m bid could lure him away from The Valley.

Spurs hammered the final nail into Charlton's coffin during a well-fought derby, with strikes from Dimitar Berbatov and Jermain Defoe late on confirming their relegation. With rumours stating that Defoe will be released to another club (possibly Manchester United), Bent may well fill the gap in the Spurs attack as they look for to partner Robbie Keane and/or Berbatov.

Tottenham are currently relishing the chance of playing in UEFA Cup football next year, and with possible new signings likely to occur, Champions League football looks imminent in the near future. As Charlton sink into the Championship, the question is how many of their players will commit themselves to the club and how many will leave to look for first team football elsewhere. This is a problem that all relegation teams face.

I feel sorry for the Charlton supporters. The team provided us with top-class football over the last seven years and I wish them the best of luck in their fight to regain Premiership status once more.
