Top 10 Strikers for 2006-07:

1. Freddie Kanoute. Scored 19 La Liga goals in 26 games and a total of 27 in 38 games for Sevilla this year.

2. Didier Drogba.
The Chelsea forward has scored 19 times so far and has 31 in all competitions for his club.

3. Francesco Totti.
Has played as a lone striker for most of the season. He has netted 26 times in 43 appearances for Roma.

4. Ruud van Nistlerooy.
Scored 18 goals in La Liga and six in the Champions League. In his debut season for Real Madrid he has scored 24 in 40 appearances.

5. Benni McCarthy.
Has scored 22 goals in 45 games at Blackburn.

6. Alberto Diego Milito.
Hit 19 goals in 33 appearances for Real Zaragoza.

7. Christiano Lucarelli.
Scored 23 times in 34 appearances for his beloved Livorno. His body doesn't appear to realise how old it’s getting.

8. Afonso Alves.
Scored 34 goals in 31 games for Heerenveen in the Eredivise.

9. Theofanis Gekas.
The 26-year-old VfL Bochum striker has scored 20 goals in the Bundesliga this season.

10. Steve Savidan.
The Valenciennes forward has 13 goals to lead the French scoring charts.

Top 10 Midfielder of 2006-07:

1. Kaka. The most influential player in this year's Champions League. His performances have been typified by his efficiency, speed and vision.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo.
Has matured amazingly well in the past year and seems to learn a new trick every week. Defenders don't have a chance any more.

3. Ronaldinho.
Heavily criticised, but scored plenty in the absence of Lionel Messi and Samuel Eto'o. Barcelona would be silly to sell him.

4. Gennaro Gattuso.
His tackling never stops and he can win the battle of the midfield on his own. His passion is infectious and he plays with his heart on his sleeve.

5. Michael Essien.
Continues to improve and has been fantastic this season.

6. Lionel Messi.
Has produced some fabulous displays since returning from injury and is a club favourite.

7. Jesus Navas.
Great provider and one of the keys to Sevilla's rise in Spanish and European football.

8. Andrea Pirlo.
After a strong World Cup, he has slowly worked his way back to his best after a form slump at AC Milan.

9. Mancini.
The Roma winger scored a fantastic triple-stepover goal against Lyon in the Champions League, a glimpse for the rest of the world of what he does every week in Serie A.

10. Dejan Stankovic.
Creative, versatile and with an eye for goal, he has been instrumental to Inter's success.

Top 10 Defenders of 2006-07:

1. Nemanja Vidic. Technically sound, his leadership and organisational skills at the back have improved Manchester United's defence immeasurably.

2. Alessandro Nesta.
Despite injuries, he has been the key to Milan's Champions League run.

3. Fabio Cannavaro.
Fantastic World Cup and is starting to show that form again for Real Madrid.

4. John Terry.
Also suffered from injury, but always plays well.

5. Rio Ferdinand.
Some typical mistakes, but for most of the season has been solid.

6. Fabio Grosso.
Great World Cup and has maintained form for most of the season.

7. Marco Materazzi.
Another player who performed well at the World Cup, scoring a goal and converting his penalty, he has helped Inter lift their second consecutive Serie A title.

8. Ricardo Carvalho.
Strong centre-back, his absence in the second leg of the Champions League final underlined his importance to Chelsea.

9. Jamie Carragher.
Becoming more consistent at the top level, he has been important to Liverpool in maintaining their strong defensive record.

10. Paolo Maldini.
At 38, continues to play like a man half his age when not injured.

Top 10 Goalkeepers of 2006:
1. Gianluigi Buffon. Immense at the World Cup, he showed fantastic loyalty by following Juve down to Serie B and not jumping ship.

2. Pepe Riena.
Liverpool's custodian proved priceless in the semi-final penalty shoot-out with Chelsea and should be in for a pay rise.

3. Petr Cech.
Has made it hard for opposition to score against him. One wonders if he hadn't been injured whether Manchester United would still have lifted the Premier League trophy.

4. Iker Casillas.
Played well in goal behind a poor Madrid defence

5. Angelo Peruzzi.
The 40-year-old has defied time to help Lazio in to third place in the Serie A and to qualify for the Champions League.

6. Edwin van der Sar.
Made some errors, but has been solid in between the posts for Manchester United.

7. Ben Foster.
The young goalkeeper is on loan at Watford and has performed well enough to be favourite to replace Van der Sar when he returns to Old Trafford.

8. Marco Amelia.
Another good season and should earn a move to a big club soon.

9. Igor Akinfeev.
The Russian national goalkeeper has continued to impress this year.

10. Manuel Neuer.
The 21-year-old earned a starting spot for Schalke this season and has helped the club to top spot in the Bundesliga.
