The Scuba Awards – The Masters of the Dive 10) Didier Zokora – The Ivorian midfielder's sharp rise to stardom after a memorable World Cup is directly proportionate to the time he takes to hit the deck. Zokora seems to have mastered the art of being a little puppy disguised as a vicious terrier. I think he misunderstood when Martin Jol told his team “to get stuck in” but not in the mud, Zokora! 9) Nemanja Vidic – Full-back and tough are terms that usually go hand in hand. Vidic is a new breed of defence. Instead of leading from the back, this new species leads from the floor. He has an all-round array of skills; good in the air but excellent on the ground.
8) Andy Johnson – A lot of newspaper time has been spent on the Johnson diving saga, and rightly so. He would dive at the drop of coin, or wind from a defender 15 metres away. The worst part is he denies it all, but the camera doesn’t lie. Johnson must spend a lot of leisure time with an oxygen tank attached to his back, together with a pair of goggles. Maybe next to Everton's training facility is a diving pool especially designed for Johnson to nurture his natural talent. 7) Jermaine Pennant – The talented Liverpool winger gets into good positions and gets crosses in, but he seems to enjoy mat exercise and yoga a bit too much, and also seems to love the grass between his hair. Rafa’s team don’t play for free-kicks as a unit, but Pennant is on a mission of his own. Judging by league standings, it does now seem compulsory to have at least one good diver to get ahead. Thanks Jermaine, but no thanks, the Reds don’t need to dive. 6) Wayne Rooney – You would think a player with his skill and determination doesn’t need weak antics to propel his team forward. You would be wrong. Rooney is just as guilty as Cristiano Ronaldo of going to ground far too easily. One gets the impression that it's something United practise on the training field. It surely doesn’t suit his robust approach, nor does it endear him to the neutrals. C’mon Rooney, take it like a man, and play like one.

ahh, the beauty of the internet. Any jerk with a keyboard can pretend to write up a balanced view of football. Get a girlfriend son, you need one.

totally clueless - you are a waste of keyboard strokes.

it's a pretty accurate list to be honest, I'd have Andy Johnson a bit higher though.

Where is Steven Gerrard, Pires, Thierry Henry, Joe Cole? Vidic and Zokora on the top 10 list? And there is no way Ronaldo dives more than Drogba. He pushes the ball away to get a foul yes, but he doesn't go down clenching his face when there is no one near him, or when the ball hits his face ala Drogba. There is no question Drogba should be number 1. He doesn't even attempt to push the ball way to get a foul. He just waits till the referee is distracted and begins his best impression of being shot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2pCF5ANWtk http ://youtube.com/watch?v=TZFifXT1N8k

you choose to see what you want to see. you choose to believe what you want to believe.

This article showed nothing more than the fact that you are undoubtedly an ABU. Vidic? That's just laughable. Where's Gerrard? Henry? J. Cole? Instead you choose Vidic, a man who in my opinion, and I've watched every single one of his games this season, hasn't dived once.

As a football fan, i have to say, Ronaldo had proven to be the best player this year, without question, in the world. Like most Englishmen, his name was mud after the world cup, but, what a response. This young man is an exceptionally talented player, and i can only envy Man UTD. Does he dive? sure, but who doesn't. That's not to say it's OK, it's not, but, if that's the worst he does, i believe Sir Alex will get that out of him.

An OKAY list there with a few obvious coupled with a few puzzling ones. It's clear that Ronaldo, Drogba and Robben are the 3 main culprits and are culpable of their theatrics but Lampard, Vidic, Rooney and Pennant? What about Eboue, Heinze (a little), van Persie and even Gerrard at times. And erm, where's Joe Cole... Cheers

Your name says it all haha

Hi Dahlia, the only pathetic thing is that you don't know that Jermaine Pennant plays for Liverpool!! Besides, Diving is NOT the Liverpool way...

Sometimes I think these ridiculous statements are posted just to get a reaction. Why do I get the sneaking suspicion that the writer is a Liverpool fan? Also the knowledge of this person seems to be restricted to the top half of the premiership. Any thoughts?

Stevie boy Gerrard still smarting from the fact that he plays for the international equivalent of Crewe Alex obviously can't stand the fact that Gattusso has world cup winner credentials and calls him soft - but Stevie you woul dnever have won in the european prize in 2005 without that carefully contrived poleaxed routine that wins you dubious pen after dubious pen - come on there is only one swallow master and it must be Stevie.
