The main concern among Spurs supporters seems to be that we keep a firm hold in midfield and defence. But if Mido gets his move away from White Hart Lane to Manchester City of all teams, then it will be almost essential to bring in another choice striker.
Even more essentially, apart from Aaron Lennon, we have no pace and agility on the wings. I guess Steed Malbranque does his best to come up at times, as does Didier Zokora - but who is making blistering runs into the opposition half other than Lennon? And as we know, he is not the most talented crosser of the ball despite some good efforts at times.
Our main problem is on the left flank, where we need a naturally gifted left-footer to provide us with cut-in runs and pinpoint outswinger crosses to our highly-rated strike force. A likely suitor to this position, I feel, would be Blackburn's Morten Gamst Pedersen. If you saw him the other night against us, some of the balls he whipped in were phenomenal. With somebody like Pedersen, it does not take a genius to convert his crosses into goals, and with the likes of Dimitar Berbatov on the prowl, this wing-striker partnership would be formidable.
With the top four, each position is evenly weighted with talent. Spurs are in desperate need of this sort of balance. We need to start buying the right players and stop wasting money on unknown young wannabes. I feel we need an icon or a role model for every team player to look up to. Liverpool have Jamie Carragher holding the back line together, Stevie Gerrard pushing the midfield forwards and Dirk Kuyt up front. Spurs seem to be lacking in fluency at times which, in effect, decides the rest of the game pretty much.
As a Spurs fan, I think Martin Jol has made a good enough effort and the prospects are bright. But it is going to take time before our team are really credited for their football.

can not say that i agree here. pedersen is a average player, nothing special, i think he is too easily played out of the game by a decent full back. When lennon finally gets his confidence back after jol's mistake of throwing him all over the pitch, he will beat even the best defenders in the world. Pedersen can not claim the same.

I clearly didnt say wayne bridge at left back and i did mention centre half! Read Again to clarify. Give Me Some More Opinions These Are Good. I Need More Ideas On Suitors To Positions You Think Would Be Best Filled!!!!

Sure there are a few options to fill the true talent void. Pedersen is one, Bridge another. I thinks it`s time to offload the 7 or 8 mediocre players (Lee, Gardner, Taniou, Mido, Ghaly and more of the like) and get in 2 maybe three claas acts to compliment some of the grat talent already at Spurs (Berba, King, Daws, Zakora, Keanno etc....) And tell Lennon he needs to get his finger out! Brilliant improvement when trying to impress, but if he wants to be a true great he needs to do it week in week out, not just when he fancies it. Send him to the Dave MacKay school of attitude and commitment.

As a Blackburn fan, Im not bothered weather Pedersen stays or goes. He is no better than average, his corners are awful, he cant take players on, average passer, and when he shoots the ball often ends up in eaither row z, or going out for a throw to the opposition. If anyone is daft enough to offer us £8m id be laughing all the way to the bank, personally id take half of that. I don't really know why Hughes keeps playing him every week. P.S good luck against city, I believe that u r the only British club that would stand half a chance of winning the UEFA cup next season. Look foward to seeing you next year.

Goals do not come from crosses only. We have to have a creative midlfielder, like most European teams have, who can switch play and play those penetrating passes. This is what Spurs are missing besides the left side. Hudd can be that player if he can show more speed and agressivness.

new left back and new left midfielder thats what i think martin jol and damien comlli should but thats where we r week at the moment.

I have to say that i dont agree with the comment made about tanio, whilst he isnt the most technically talented player on the spurs squad, his commitment in my opinion is top class. He fights for the ball and gives us a bit of back bone. What spurs are missing is a bit of strength in depth, we desperately need a top class play maker that can boss the midfield. Look at all the best teams, Man u had keane and now have ronaldo, chavski have essien (class when they let him play in his proper position) and makelaly, liverpool have gerrard. We need a top quality play maker NOW, Tarabbat will be class in a few years but we dont have time to let him mature. We need to splash the cash on a player like Nani from portugal.

Younes Kaboul is a centre back not a left back
by KingGlenn on May 12, 2007
Go for Pedersen and Matty Taylor Both top quality, geuine left-footers with Prem experience and both score goals. I also reckon we should back off buying a 4th striker and take the opportunity to blood Taraabt & Dixon.

Pedersen is a must IMO!As we do not have anyone who can take free kicks, corners or cross the ball, surley Jol and co have looked at him! Question is, how much is he going to cost!£10m plus I think, so alot of dosh.Bridge , Baines or Bale for left back!
by Essexian76 on May 12, 2007
We have needed a left sided player for an age and some more. Gaamst is a good EPL, honest player, but we also need to get in some real quality defenders as well as a creative midfielder.Huge list for santa I know, but there it is

Left side is a priority both in defence and in attack.Everyone seems to think pedersen, he maybe good at deadball situations but we need pace, and for that i believe the prospect both for goals and attacking threat the only person who fits that bill is a young player by the name of Andreas Guardado of mexico.

Gamst, as he likes to be known now, would be a great signing for any club. He performs a variety of roles, not least his ability to cross a ball. He is also a superb free-kick taker and can also operate as an out and out striker. Whoever persuades Blackburn to part with him will have landed a real gem. Can't understand why Chelsea haven't been in for him. Maybe he's too much of an individualist for Mr Mourinho.

i think if we get bale, petterson, and a good tackleing midfielder, we can break the top 4... dawson will become the best center half in the country....
by kiki on May 13, 2007
thanks mike
for me taino is a good honest player, when he is playing we dont conciede as much FACT. he played the last 2 you know how many we concieded...tom hudd should get another chance next season.. and if yo think ronaldo is tricky, wait till you see tabaabt
by luke durkin - author on May 13, 2007
tarrabt is up and coming he has pace and is not afraid in any way to take players on so i feel there will be more to come from this guy! Taino should stay theres nothing wrong wid him i know.
by DannyBoy on May 13, 2007
Its certainly clear that we lack, well pretty much anything down the left hand side and in the last couple of matches it seemed that we werent even trying to plug the gap and just played without it, but any decent team doesnt just need superstars we do need grafters and husslers like tainio to be successful. I was also wondering what people thought about jenas, from what i've seen of him this year i'v been impressed with his stamina and energy he just gives the ball away too much and isn't a very technically gifted player, certainly not consistantly anyway, for a midfielder he's getting to the age where he really needs to be in his prime and if what he has produced this season is anything to go by then i think it might be time to let him move on and give tom huddlestone a shout instead, on the other hand he may be worth keeping as a back up player, then again i could be completely wrong!! What d'ya reckon?

centre half!!

The league is 45 minutes gone and we're speaking of who's coming and going already. Let's look at the real problem of Spurs. Continuity. Yes that's the real reason we struggled at the beginning of the season. New players at key positions...i.e. Berbatov trying to find rythm from the start, zokora trying to fill carricks boots, and Leds being out most of the year. Let's face the truth that continuity up the middle is the biggest problem. Now, that being said, next year with our midfield in tact, Berb's firing on all cylinders and hopefully Leds healthy, the only thing Spurs next to do is sure up the left side with quality of Pederson or Joe Cole, Robben, Downing, Petrov. I don't see any reason why we can't snap one of them up. Then the last hole is getting a hard nosed left back to play DEFENSE, instead of being another link up left winger. We've got plenty of pace and link up with Jenas, Hudds, Zokora and Lennon in the midfield. Do this with the same squad we had this year, and I guarantee Champs League play

He's class, we need him, if I was to count the intercepted (or poor?)crosses we've had this season my beard would be as long as Gandolphs!!!!!! I rest the case for MGP's signature?
