So AC Milan are crowned Champions of Europe. Do Manchester United fans really hate Liverpool so much that they feel obligated to mock Liverpool’s loss in the Final even though they couldn’t make it that far ?

Congratulations, Milan , it was your night to shine. Two years of toxicity released. The Rossoneri got the closure they had so patiently waited for.

Filippo Inzaghi’s handiness in the box proved the deciding factor on the night, and he was armed and ready for the battle of Athens.

As mail of scorn continues to pour in from Manure supporters all over the world, it confirms one thing - that Manchester United fans, aka Liverpool haters, have a lot of time for Liverpool FC. So, too, do Chelsea supporters.

I personally don’t take time out of my busy schedule to watch United or Chelsea in action, unless of course, they are playing Liverpool. From Arsenal to Watford, they wait with baited breath for Liverpool to lose.

There is one important point in Liverpool’s loss to AC Milan on the night. Liverpool finished runners-up, or to simplify things for United supporters, they finished second ahead of Man United and Chelsea. And now with the level playing with Tom Hicks and George Gillett on board, a more significant dip into the transfer market could make for a stronger return next season.

After Wednesday's defeat, Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard said: "We're going places, there's no getting away from that. We've got to pick ourselves up, have a good rest in the summer and then go again next season.”

And that is exactly the point. It is not the end of the world, merely the end of the season. A pre-season of rebuilding awaits, and there are very, very exciting times ahead for the Reds.

Rafa Benitez will come back stronger next season, so too Stevie G and Co. And with new ammunition comes new ambition.

Supporters of United
Remain unsighted

And those of Chelsea
Remain in your Jealousy

For at the hands of Rafa
You are going to suffer

The Reds will be back
Once they bolster their attack

As a true force they will re-emerge
The faithful Kop their energy surge

Though they were defeated in Greece
Their hearts will never cease.
