I totally agree donna gee that robbo is lacking in something concerning management material. I have witnessed it as an albion fan. I think he would be best suited as a coach/assistant. There is no doubt that in his time he was a great player who wore his heart on his sleeve but management skills are limited. As the old saying goes great players dont always make great managers. If any sheff fans are reading this then you will see strange signings and team selections. He does like his favourites.

Donna Gee. Hope you're wrong about Robson coming to Bramall Lane. The feeling amongst the Blades I've talked to is that with Brian Kidd assisting him that may reign in some of Robson's urges to mess about with an already decent squad. Here's hoping we're playing you lot in the Premiership before too long!!

As a Baggies supporter since 1944 I've seen most of them come and go. I was pleased to see Bryan go partly for his need to bring in 'old has-beens', like Hartson, Campbell, etc., on vast wages they could not earn or justify. Bryan could not (would not?) see all midfielders are not blessed with his attributes and a blend of strengths to cover weaknesses is what makes a good team. Koumas has to be accommodated in any classy side and if a 'worker' is needed to make up for his defects in defence, then so be it. Tony Mowbray calls these sort of players 'My Soldiers' and he's right. This man is my sort of manager. Score some goals, entertain the crowd and win if you can as a bonus. Long may he stay. Bryan may well buy some good players and get a good coach too, but will he listen to him? I doubt it.

Not just with koumas but also earnshaw, his 15 goals kept us up that season but robson then fell out with him and decided not to play him anymore and sold him to Norwich where he is now banging them in and is rated at £8 million by them, instead chose to play one up front that man being old timer Kevin Cambell of course we got relegated and the signings he made for our promotion push were more old timers Watson, Perry, Hartson, and a goaly called Zuberbuhlar who was the worst of them all and we only brought him in because Robson decided to loan out our best player Kuszczak to his beloved Man U which is why him and our chairman fell out in the end because our chairman didnt know anything about it and had spent all summer trying to keep our best players

Alex, I was going to include Earnshaw in my article as well as Koumas but as I'm a Cardiff fan I didn't want people to accuse me of only getting involved because I'm a bitter Bluebird. If you'd kept Earnie I reckon you'd have gone up automatically this season - just as we would have done with him and Koumas in OUR side. Instead, we also got lumbered with Kevin Campbell!

as a west brom fan all i can do is totally agree, the best word i can think of to describe robson is "bafoon" the man is an absolute joke as a manager and under him the albion produced some of the most inept displays in the clubs history. he didn't keep us up we have ferguson, curbishley and coleman to thank as there respective yeams won on the final day of the so called "great escape".

Time will tell.Robson's got Brian Kidd here also.Hopefully he'll learn from his mistakes eh! Maybe he'll succeed, maybe not.We can only give him our support. Will judge him in a few months.UTB

not only does he lack management skills e plays too defensvie with attacking minded teams how many times did albion throw away points when playing defensive and how many did we gain when playin attackive. now we got mowbray who plays attackive football look where we are. in the final of the play offs when robson left we wernt even in the play offs! 3 relegations on his CV really good appointment

With Brian Kidd as his assistant and another coach possibly from Newcastle to come in .i think the Blades will do well with the ex Man Utd staff.Brian Kidd is well respected in the game together they should be able to get the best out of an already a stronger squad that went up.A squad that finished nine points ahead of third place. Should be an easy manager's spot to take over can Robson relly mess it up so badly since he inherits a such a strong squad.

I'm amazed Sheff U took on Robson. I can't understand why. He was a fantastic player and my biggest hero but as a manager he seems tp be lacking motivational skills. He likes his teams to play a passing game but surprisingly, his teams are cautous and not at all brave and forward thinking like he played. He must be the complete opposite of Warnock. To be honest, I wish him well and would like to se Sheff U promoted next season.
I think one of Robson's biggest problems is that he lacks charisma. He has always come over as a dour, boring sort of guy - what a contrast to Neil Warnock, the extrovert he replaces at Bramall Lane. As a manager, Robson doesn't seem to have made many friends among the fans, either. To be honest, I expected people to jump to his defence over this article but most people seem to agree with me on this one. Makes a change!

Bryan Robson is my second best ever Man United player behind George Best and while he hasn't shone quite as brightly as a manager you can't deny him some praise for guiding Middlesbrough into the Premiership and keeping West Brom up. Brian Kidd is a proven No 2 at the highest level, man United and England and he could well do a great job in helping Robbo to success at Bramall Lane.

You have started off in stating that Robson is not a good manager, no better than Conference standard. However, you place a few pieces of statisics that lead me to believe somewhat otherwise. Three cup finals in six years at Boro is not bad by their standards let alone most clubs, be it they lost all three. You also go on to state that he was poor at Albion, having them bottom by Christmas but then say that they miraculoulsy stayed up. Whether Robbo is to blame or maybe that the teams he manages might be below par in general is the question on the tip of my tongue. Your article is highly informative and I don't doubt your knowledge and writing ability which is proven to be good what with your c.v. reading so well! I could learn a lot from you and enjoyed reading your artciles and will continue to do so. Apologies for being harsh but we learn from our mistakes and yours are hardly mistakes, merely oversights if even that. Each has their own opinion! Cheers, Brian
