Great piece, agree with most points, but i wouldn't call the season as mediocre? Sure it is hardly the greatest Liverpool era, but reaching a Champions League final in any season is no mean feat
by Shervin on May 30, 2007
Sorry, mate but I don't think your views on matt taylor are fair. The lad has never been a central midfielder, instead he's a left-back who can also be used further up as a winger. And, I guess he would be an improvement on Riise, considering the average season of the norwegian. But, I do agree with you on the fact that we can't afford second bests anymore.

Good point Shervin on Taylor, maybe an alternative to Riise? Showed this season he needs competition, operated on cruise control too much for my liking

Matt Taylor is a left sided full back who can play left midfield. Harsh on Pennant I thought, deserves another season, although perhaps not first choice. Other than that agree

Villa may have been languishing in the mid to low table in recent times, but we are hardly a small club. 90 per cent of us don't want Bellamy or Kewell. Liverpool have hardly set the world alight in the last 20 years either apart from a couple of penalty shoot outs. We have an American billionare too you know, a great manager, great stadium and a lot of history too, not as great as Liverpool obviously, so we are looking up just as you are. No cast offs thank you very much.

Megs, On behalf of Liverpool fans everywhere please accept my apologies for Shane Robinsons unacceptable comments about Aston Villa. You are indeed a gret club with a superb footballing tradition and Shane has no right in saying otherwise. Unlike other football clubs who have recently got to the top purely because of finance....Villa got there through good management, excellent team building and hard work. Steve

I stopped respecting your opinion when you pointed to matt taylor being a center mid. Surely anyone with a decent knowledge would be aware or at least yad have noticed him against the pool clearly playing out left?? do your homework before you go casting views
No probs steve, I can understand shanes views to be fair, Liverpool are the biggest and most successful team in England and need to start breaking the hold of the mancs and chelski. I'm sure he wasn't being malicious, and I'm sure you'll be pushing for the prem title next season, I hope we will be lagging around behind you somewhere.

"Another mediocre season has again left the Reds with no silverware to show for their efforts." Are you unaware of the 05 champions league final and the 06 FA Cup final that we won.....The biggest European competition and the biggest domestic cup.........
The last comment entitled Megs, Steve & Ruairi acredited to my name was NOT submitted by me. Please accept my unreserved apologies for any offence caused. It is clearly someone looking to stir things up.
Shane I know what Liverpool have won over the last 20 years, very impressive indeed, but you are a bigger club in status around the world, thus creating an income that is far greater than anyone else in the top flight except maybe Man Utd, which inturn gives you massive spending power and attraction to big name players. So you should win things frequently. Unfortunately we have had to run a club on a very tight budget for many years. Benetez has spent and spent and brought in player after player but with little effect and your on field footballing traditions are slowly dissapearing into a defensive, zonal marking, long ball show. We saw that against Milan. Had Benetez tried to play football against them, you would have been wiped out. Maybe this big cheque book you talk about would be better spent on a new manager and a solid loyal nucleus of a squad, rather than dreaming about Eto'o, Villa etc... Look whats happened at Chelsea now the owner has bought the league twice and started to lose interest.

Shane, you know nothing about football.....in fact i would go so far as to say you probably have never kicked a ball.
That was constructive. Thank you for taking the time

i just think that liverpool need to sign at least 6-7 players if they want to win the premiership. Eto'o, and either torres or Villa, Carlos Tevez daniel alves, and to be honest i would break the bank for messi cos we need a quality left winger and if theses americans are saying what they mean then get messi along with ledley king. i would alos look at the celtic boy form japan he looks good. Has for a right winger will thats a little tricky cos i not sure about simao but Aaron lennon could be a really good buy. i also think that if we can get theses players we have a chance. i also think it is the end of the road for Fowler who i love along with bellamy pennant zendon gonzales dudek hyypia and kewell who i do feel sorry for, and cisse. we have to buy quality palyers and if alonso wants to go barcalona then bring in kaka. all theses players that i have mentioned are not impossible to get if we have the backing of the yanks

I think yourself and delroy should get together, ye both seem as dillusional as each other....plus.....he thinks your cute.
Shane, have you ever considered a career as a referee

ANOTHER season without silverware???This si the 1st season under Benitez that we havnt won a major trophy although we did get to the CL final and win the Community shield. Also the points difference between us and United isnt a true reflection of how far behind we are cos we put reserve teams out for the final 4 games and had we been in the title race or faced competetion to qualify for the champs league we would of had an incentive to raise our game which was lacking from January onwards. Finally, how long has Matt Taylor been a central midfielder?? Most people with an ounce of football knowledge would know hes a left sided player but even if thats beyond you at least do research before airing your incorrect issues.
Well said jabba, Shane sounds like a guy who only starting following pool are 2005
The first paragraph is written by the editor of the site, not me you tosser so maybe research before airing you knob jockey. Simon, you support Watford now?

RAFA, PLEZ KEEP KEWELL, HE IS A FANTASTIC PLAYER. CAN PLAY AS A STRIKER N ALSO LEFT WINGER. PLAYER OF GREAT TALENT.
by Peter on May 30, 2007
I agree with what you wrote for the most part, but we need to see cash from the americans and no more chit-chat. Also the short-sightedness of Parry last year meant we missed Alves and Simao (although Benfica were partly to blame). First things first, Parry must go - his short-sightedness in arguing over small amounts of money suggests he cannot see the bigger picture. Only when he goes will we probably see real change - interestingly some media reports are now referring to him as a lame duck! Would we have won in Athens with Alves and Simao, instead of Zenden and Pennant. Obviously I don't know, but I'd bet we'd have had a better than 50-50 chance.

If the changes in your team are going to be as drastic as we are led to believe, do you honestly think all of these new faces will gel overnight? and if they dont will your board and fans then turn on Benitez?
by Parm on May 30, 2007
"Shane, you know nothing about football.....in fact i would go so far as to say you probably have never kicked a ball." What on earth does that have to do with anything? Garbage. Fair enough, there are some errors in this article, but most of the other points are valid. Getting to the CL final was a great achievement, but the fact remains that domestically we have been very average, and that's what matters. "Maybe this big cheque book you talk about would be better spent on a new manager and a solid loyal nucleus of a squad" A new manager? I struggle to think of more than a handful of managers who've achieved more than Benitez in his time as a manager. His record speaks for itself, including his Liverpool career. Admittedly, his league form hasn't been up to scratch thus far. But it took Ferguson quite a while to win his first title. Last season we got a Premiership record for us with 82 points, which I think represents massive progress on the whole. Then you talk about how we should concentrate on gettin
