What most people fail to realise is that Ashley will go global to sell merchandising, this means in order to increase his profits Newcastle need to be as successful as possible. He is a player in a world wide retail market so Newcastle will become a huge brand name and therefore profit generator if successful. This man is a winner and ruthless if needs demand, so expect Newcastle to move forward at a rapid pace after year one. Also expect a lot of shocked supporters and journalists when they move alongside the very top European teams. He will not make Abramovich's mistake by paying over the odds for players, who incidentally looks disillusioned with life in London and is beginning to tell his team to lower their wage demands and become self sufficient, so expect the gravy train to come to an end there. Mike ashley is a greedy man who exploits everything he can. his sports chain is a prime example treating workers like dogs .

What a lot of people don’t know is that Mr M Ashley has been a massive follower of football with England home and away for many years and even though he doesn’t follow an individual club, apart from his retail operation football is one of his biggest loves. Also anyone who thinks that Mr Ashley will not do to NUFC what he has done with his business seriously might have had one pint to many. Yes he is a self made billionaire. Yes he is a hard line business individual and a bit of a maverick in the way he does things, but he gets results and has the track-record to prove it. I agree with other comments made that yes he has probably bought into NUFC because of the branding and marketing rights which he can push globally and also because of what a fantastic fan-base they’ve got. But even so, to be able to deliver and still make a return on his investment, he has got to pump in a fortune into the club from the grass roots and upwards. I went to school with Mike in Bucks, wont say which one, was a funny and likable kid, never thought in a million years he was into football, he played squash for county though.
