Often when a club sells a player, he then sometimes struggles to find his feet. Fernando Morientes, back in Spain at Valencia proves it is not always the case. I am not surprised, some players just can't fit into, or get used to, a style of play, and I feel Morientes was one of them.
I had no doubt Morientes he would return to scoring back in his native Spain and his familiar stomping ground in the Champions League. His goals for Madrid and Monaco have been extremely important and now playing back in Spain he will score a few more. Shame for the Liverpool fans that he couldn’t continue his scoring feats at Anfield.
Steven Gerrard started on the bench as Liverpool started with an alternative midfield. I feel Boudewijn Zenden is not really a playmaker and although he has quality, he does not come close to Xabi Alonso, who in my opinion is sheer class. Liverpool do not look like they have found the real blend yet, but it won't take long. Jermaine Pennant is a good signing, he has the class just weather his temperament can stand the test.
I do think however Liverpool “might do a job” and “turn Chelski over” as a Liverpudlian colleague said to me today. I feel Chelsea will be intimidated by Mohamed Sisoko, Gerrard and Alonso, I can not see Michael Ballack or Frank Lampard enjoying the physical battle ahead.
I feel Liverpool need to win and win well at places like PSV to repeat their feats of two seasons ago, the only clear weakness clear to me is speed in defensive line.
